REPORT: Panthers will hire Norv Turner as OC

A few stats of note that make me wonder if this is a good hire...

On average, every team Norv has been the OC of when you take out the Cowboys...

Average drive length 26 yards. Average drive was 2-2.5 minutes long and only 5-6 plays....that seems like a lot of 3 and outs. Points per possession come in somewhere around 1.6 on average.

And in almost every season, regardless of the team or QB, the TD/INT ratio was terrible, and never better than 26TD/20INTs.

Compare that to recent Panthers history. Cam has had multiple seasons of 20+ TDs with less than 16 INTs, so does this mean Cam will make Turner look better, or Turners system will cause more Cam INTs?

Panthers recent history shows 6-7 plays, 29 or so yards, nearly 3 minutes, and closer to 2 points per drive on average. With Shula.

Since the cowboy days, he's had,as an OC:

39 year old Doug flutie for a year at  SD, lost his job in a head coaching change

a 2nd year Alex Smith for one year, then left for a HC position

Jay Fielder, Brian Griese & Ray Lucas for 2 years, then left for a HC position

Jason Campbell, Brian Hoyer and Brandon Weeden for a year, then left because, Cleveland.

Bridgewater  and Sam Bradford 3 years, conflicting reports on why he left.

Not sure that, if you combined all those in a  voltron-like fashion  that you'd get a player equal to  Cam Newton.

Been many years where he's had a stable position and a good QB. He could have both here. If he can connect with Cam, could be a good match.

let’s be honest with ourselves

if norv slipped through our grasp, it wouldn’t propel ron to go in a different direction with the offense. he’d still want to run the same offense and he’d probably promote lance taylor or hire someone similarly inexperienced.

Yep and the Chargers always underachieved despite having great talent #smh

Could be good, could be bad, too many variables in an NFL team to know for sure.

The Chargers consistently underachieve because the Spanos family are some of the worst owners in sports.

Add the yet unknown new Panthers ownership to the mix.  Guess we'll just have to wait and see how this move turns out like everyone else.

That's already too much football facts/knowledge for the average Huddler to get bruh.

Also all the people with an IQ > 70 have already said that HC is not the same as OC....it's so easy a caveman can do it....sadly not all the Huddlers can.

It appears that this will become a "Family Affair"

Norv as OC and Scott as QB Coach

Norv and Scott Turner will join two family members already with the Panthers when the hiring becomes official. Ron Turner, the brother of Norv, is a offensive consultant with Carolina. Cameron Turner, the nephew of Norv and son of Ron, is currently the assistant quarterbacks coach.

What The What???????????????????????

There is no need to be condescending.

The reality is no one knows for sure how this move it going to turn out regardless of their intelligence quotient.

This is what Rivera wanted since he got here. This is your HC.

As the owner, JR ran the team in the manner he thought best.

I wasn't always thrilled with his decisions and I suspect the same will be true of the new owners as well.

Yea that's what Scot was critiquing in defense of Turner so it's pertinent to this discussion.

I don't figure Spanos was running his team in a manner he thought worst, then again!!
