REPORT: Panthers will hire Norv Turner as OC

West Coast systems do favor mobile quarterbacks, primarily because they keep fewer blockers in the backfield choosing instead to send everybody out to pass.  It's basically the polar opposite of the max protect scheme we've used frequently over the last few years.

But a WCO also favors short accuracy, which is something Cam has sometimes but not consistently. It's also much better when you have receiving options like Steve Smith that are really good at getting YAC.  We only have one or two guys you can say that about.

Coryell, on the other hand, prefers to pair a strong run game with a deep passing big play threat.  Stacking the box against a good Coryell offense can get you burned downfield, while playing deep leaves you vulnerable to the power run.

I'd agree Cam is better suited to the Coryell.  He's more of a longball thrower than a dink and dunker.  Gunslinger QBs tend to do well in Coryell offenses too.

I think you guys are crazy.

WCO is just a language. Football is football.

Coaches run their own iterations of everything anyway. Some feature tightends, some pass catching running backs, some hate tightends. Some like short routes, some like more timing and hard squared off routes, some like rounded.

You guys are acting like football systems are like rigid old kungfu styles or something.

Cam makes plenty of short and medium throw touchdowns. We’ve seen him do plenty of 3 and 5 step drops this year, so I don’t know what everyone is talking about.

In 2011 Cam threw 450 yards to Stewart and about that to Deangelo Williams, proof.

Funny.

If a QB (Cam) is not able to consistently complete a throw to the flats or hit a drag route or short curl he doesn't need to be in the league.

Brb the opposing team just covers mid-deep leaving the short stuff open because the OC for Panthers will not have Cam throwing short even though it is open.

Makes sense and seems legit for winning.

And that’s when you ram it down their throat.

Just now, Cartel de Carolina said:

Cam can throw short and is actually more accurate throwing short. He sails more medium and deep balls than short.

This isn’t true in the slightest.

Cam is an elite long ball thrower when he’s actually got the time and the weapons to do so.
