Exactly. I was screaming at the tv. How do you come into a playoff game and not know what the second play of the game is gonna be?! We have to lead the league in wasted 1st half timeouts.

We had many instNces of that this year. Shula seemed like a robot who couldn’t adjust to the personnel or the situation. Another example was the last offensive series. We had just scored on a long play to cmc. So what does Shula do? On several crucial plays he has cmc in blocking instead of being involved in the play.

I think Ron went back and looked at the film of the playoff game. First play of the game was  big run up the middle by Stew, 11 yards or so. We grabbed early momentum and put the Saints on their heels. Then there's Cam standing in the huddle looking over to the sideline. And looking.... and looking... and looking. By the time the call comes in, the play clock is down and we burn a time out.

Maybe if we get a quick play call right there we march it down and open the game 7-0 and the entire complexion of the game changes.

After watching that sequence, Ron decides Shula needs to go.

Usually offenses plan and script the first 10 plays and obviously discuss different scenarios of what the outcomes of said plays are. I think this time though Shula’s gum wasn’t sticking to the play sheet while he was throwing it at it to pick his next play.
