We need to draft this guy and let Gano walk.  We should have kept Butker last year and now need to use another pick to correct that mistake.  Yes Gano had an excellent year, but he is up in years and costs too much.  Carlson is the best K in college.  Let's save the money to upgrade another position.

Draft a kicker only to have Hurney keep him on the roster for a couple weeks and then let him get poached?

Gano is a free agent, so when we let Butker walk, we chose to keep a kicker who we were only guaranteed to have for one year.

As you stated, Gano had a great year. Kickers can play longer than just about any position. Bring in a UDFA for camp.

Gano earned his job.  It was that simple. He deserved to be here over Butker.

Gano wasn't appreciably better than Butker. Heck, I've seen people talking about Butker as one of the best kickers of this season. 

Gano is older, more expensive and was in the last year of his contract. Now he's supposed to be a free agent while Butker is still in his rookie deal.

We could have been set for years at the kicker position, and cheaply.

Not trying to pick on you necessarily, but there were plenty of people who thought that I was crazy when I used the same rationale for keeping Palardy over Lee.  

Butker was pretty good this year, but Gano was probably the best! Add in his kick-offs and it's easily justifiable.
