For those pleading for speed at the WR position

Samuel is not a vertical threatening WR.  Wasn't college.   Wasn't as a rookie.  Likely won't be in the NFL.

More a slot type WR IMO.

People can’t seem to grasp this concept

When Samuel was at OSU Micheal Thomas caught more actual deep passes than Samuel. Samuel dropped both deep passes thrown to him this year. He’s a YAC guy not a deep threat

Samuel isn’t even a YAC guy

Speed isn't the only issue. Plenty of guys in the league with speed (including guys like Clay), but if you can't catch or get separation, you're useless. That's why there are guys who are low-round or undrafted who get bounced around. If Ted Ginn had the hands and could run the routes of the top third of the league, he'd be a Top 5 receiver in the league, because of his speed.

All our guys should have to compete with the spot below where they are right now. Funchess should have to compete for the #2 spot. Samuel should have to compete for the #3, Byrd for the #4. We accomplish that by bringing in TWO receivers (1 in FA, 1 high in the draft).

Ginn apparently does have good hands though, unless you consider this year a fluke. He posted a 75% catch rate in 2017, which is the highest or second highest in the NFL iirc. 800 yds & ran all sorts of routes.

The best posters are the ones that go “we signed a WR and some of you still aren’t happy, can’t ever please some of you” after we sign the Russell Shepard’s of the world.

Newsflash, just because someone is listed at WR doesn’t mean it’s what we need. We need 2 ACTUAL WRs this offseason

I’m fine with one FA acquisition. Funch FA-WR Byrd Samuel is a damn good crew.

We need a legitimate #1.

Not a can be #1. Not a #2 that we hope becomes a #1.  A legitimate #1.

Someone who can "consistently" beat 1 on 1.

Someone with enough speed to legitimately demand safety help on a consistent basis.

Someone who has good to great hands.

Someone above 6'1.

Byrd and Samuel are a really nice 4/5 combo on the depth chart while rotating in every so often

If we sign two say goodbye to the notion of bringing in any help at other positions of need.

You’re forgeting we have Funchess. You’re essentially relegating him to the 4th wr spot. Byrd played better than a 4/5 receiver and Samuel would be a decent slot wr.

Cam with real weapons masks any other problems we have. We aren’t that far off we literally just need WR’s. If we had real WR’s Sunday, we’re playing again this wknd.

and although Funchess makes it really easy to forget about him, I didn’t.

We have speed on the roster, but we still need THE guy, and with the Funchess on the roster we don't need a possession WR. We tried that with KB and it didn't work. Got to get a guy who can do it all, burn em, jump balls and short/crossing routes. I don't think its even possible but Josh Gordon would be the dream.

Gordon is way to deep in the NFL drug program to be anything outside of a bonus WR IMO.
