Butler to replace Star?

We'll see but it's more likely we keep Norwell if we let Star walk than if we sign Star...

I personally think the decision to sign Norwell will come down more to whether or not the Panthers want that much money tied up in Guards vs having anything to do with Star. Norwell is going to get the largest Guard contract in NFL history, is that really what we want to do? Can't wait for everyone to flip out on Hurney when he spends that kind of cash.

Butler is more of a penetrator, would probably change the way we play defense a bit.

I think....I want Norwell a little more than Star long term.  However Star has done nothing but stay healthy, keep his mouth shut, and play damn good football....just like Norwell....hard to find those types these days.

Agreed, and we could look at it like this....we have an All Pro Center (although hurt this year), and two of the best G's in football, and we still can't run the ball....what does that say?

Yea I mean, Gettleman might have played the long con here, drafted Butler so he could bring Star to the Giants lol. I know that's totally impossible but I'm pretty sure that's where he signs. Giants become the second Panthers-lite in the northeast.

That All pro center is probably done with football, as he should be.  Luckily I think Larson will hold it down adequately enough until they can draft the next center sometime down the road.

I'm not as down on Matt as everyone here seems to be.  He struggled mightily at times early in the season but he did manage to show progress as the season went on.  He will do for another season until a better option presents itself.  Got to sign Norwell though because he's worth the investment.  I just wish it wasn't Hurney that was going to sign that contact.

But on the topic at hand, I think Star would be a loss to the defense but not one that will be devastating.  Losing Norwell will have a bigger impact.  If Butler can fill in then we can focus on other needs.

I agree with you, but as a GM, I could look at that much money being tied up in the middle of our line and wonder why the hell we can't run the ball better...not saying that's how I feel, but Hurney could.

Who is easier/cheaper to replace?  Norwell or Star

Would you be able to replace either with someone on the roster?

How much to replace either in free agency?

How easy and where in the draft could you replace either?  I would think you would have to spend a 1st or 2nd to feel somewhat confident you could somewhat replace one in the draft  and even then there is a chance that person won't work out.

Personally if you can replace one of them with someone already on the roster on a cheap contract that frees up a higher draft pick and cap space.

We can't run the ball because the scheme is FUBAR.  They can blame the players all they want but our run game is the most predictable and antiquated in the league.  Don't listen to those mouth breathing commentators during the game.  Shula's run game is a joke.
