Drastic change with new owner- would you still be a fan of this team?

1. Hence, "let's assume..."

2. You didn't answer my question.

I don’t assume so can’t answer to that extent. I will always be a fan, it’s just to what level. If the new owners go full retard I will just stop watching and catch up after the games.

Posted this yesterday before Igo took the thread down

We need a lot of things, can't get em all with just the draft and paying old players won't help in FA.

If Ron were not gonna be here forever, I'd say trade Cam to Cleveland for about 3  1st rounders and start the rebuild.  If you wait another season, he won't be worth too much. That and don't give out big contracts to aging players.  But, Ron will be here and not much will change.

Next season, as the OP said, will look the same or most likely worse

In additions to the post above

If you look at the Vikings/Cowboys trade, it brought Dallas a load of great talent.  They had the 3 headed monster on offense of Emmitt, Troy and Ervin.  An Oline that crushed everyone.  They picked up a few rings out of that trade.

As I have said before, we are in worse shape than some think.  We are very old at key positions, namely DE, who is supposed to provide a great pass rush without the help of safeties, LB's and corner blitzes.  Ours do not and won't.

LB is thin

Safety is awful

Oline needs much help

Need a new RB

Need one or two WR's,

When you look at all this, then a rebuild, like baseball teams do, is in order.  Fandom takes many forms

If the starting QB starved Browns coughed up both first rounders this season and one next for Cam, we could probably turn it into DE Chubb, RB Barkley and QB Rudolph, just as an example of the first round.  3 key playmakers.  Luke is one head bump from retirement, you won't get anything for him

But, none of this works without coaching changes, if they keep the current staff, then we might as well slog along for a few more years, but I have no confidence that it will take us over the top.  Do not have confidence that RR and his guys can develop a new QB and a scheme, they have not done so well with developing Newton nor the scheme around him.

OP knows this too, that is why he disguised his thoughts as a what if "new ownership" did this.  Good job OP, you are headed in the right direction

You need to remember at least half this fan base comes from  after 2011 when Cam was drafted. We will lose this when he is gone.

Unfortunatley, the Panthers actually have a very small true fan base based on observations pre Cam.

That's how it starts though.  It's our kids who are truly going to be the die hards because they are going to grow up with Carolina being all they know.  Yes some are diehards from the beginning(props to me), and there are some that are fans of specific players.  You can tell who they are.    However  a large majority of our kids will be Panthers fans to the core.

I have been a Carolina Panther fan since the day it was announced that Charlotte was awarded a team.  I have pulled for the Panthers thru the good and bad years.  I am not a fan because of any one particular player or because of who the owner or GM might be. I will be a Panther fan until the day I die.  The only reason I would possibly stop pulling for them is if they move. I just hope that never happens and don't think it will.

So, yes, I will still be a fan if that crazy-ass scenario were to play out.

Mods,  can I start a thread about assymetrical testicular syndrome?   My junk don’t  balance and I believe it’s thread worthy.

Thoughts

They're supposed to balance? Uh Oh

I was a fan before we put a team on the field. I endured Kerry Collins, rae carruth, and every other bit of drama that has come around. I was here for 2001 and 2010. I'll be here whatever happens....unless it moves then I'll have to think about it. But as long as we have a team here, I'm here.

I’ve been here through JRs entire act of kissing the nfl’s ring, through 1-15 and 2-14 seasons, through Rae carruth scandals, through my favorite player of all time getting cut (Smitty), through all the bs the team goes through because the media encourages an ignorant blind hatred of Cam, league authorized bounties on Cams head, all of that. I’ll survive whatever comes next.

If the ownership prematurely trades Cam for the sake of starting over or something, then I'll have a really hard time being a fan for a while. He's the most impactful player we've ever had and a true HoF star. I want Cam to stay here until he can't play productively. It would also be a blow for Rivera to be canned immediately. At the very least let me ease into the idea of a new owner before you dump everything that is familiar.

Ideally, the new owner comes in, hires a strong football guy as GM who is willing to think a little outside the box in terms of putting a quality team together around Cam, and then have that guy fire Shula and make Ron pick someone else or let him leave of his own accord. But, I'd fire Shula first and then let Ron decide instead of forcing Ron to fire Shula. Ron could then get full support and we'd roll from there.
