For Everyone Worrying About Closing Windows for A Super Bowl

Hoenheim

Recommended Posts

Brees won a Super Bowl 9 years, Brady won his first 16 years ago, and Big Ben won his first one 12 years ago. All of their teams are now in a great position to win one again.

I am certain we will have down years, but this team will be competitive as long as Cam is healthy. New ownership will determine the direction of this team. The good thing about windows is that after they close they can open again.

Many of us thought the Saints window was closed and were in cap hell. Then they killed the last two drafts.

Don’t worry, theirs is closed. Vikings gonna smash them and Brees will walk.

The next "window" will feature Moton, Turner, and Williams on the OL in their mid and late 20s. CMC, Byrd and Samuel in their mid 20s as the key playmakers at WR/RB. Armah at FB. Funchess in his late 20s as a long time vet similar to Moose in the first SB.

Daeshon Hall and Vernon Butler on the DL rotation in their mid 20s. Maybe Shaq will be a part of it too, as a 30ish year old. Bradberry and Worley technically could still be there, but they need to get better. Corn Elder may be a solid Nickel in his mid 20s.

So what positions do we need to address over the next 3-4 drafts in the early rounds to continue having a solid foundation for the future?

1. QB

2. TE

3. WR (need a #1 guy)

4. Center

5. LG (Norwell costs too much)

6. FS

7. SS

8. MLB

9. OLB

10. DE

11. DT

12. CB

Can we find 12 "keepers" over the next 4 drafts? I sure hope so. I don't see the window technically closing, but in terms of being solid at every position and competitive at a Super Bowl level, yeah we have 2 years left with this current roster and then we have 2 years of getting back to form, and then be competitive again with a franchise QB after Cam is gone.

Cam is 29 heading into next season (Will be year #8)

Luke is 27 heading into next season

Short  is 29 heading into next season

Yea, TD will be 35 , RKalil will be 33 , Olsen 33 , Stew 31

I'd say this is a little worrying with all our real stars getting near 30 or over 30. But just to inject some positivety:

  • John Elway didnt win a Super Bowl till age 37 (in his 15th season)  (With a better all around team, better coaching staff)
  • Payton Manning won a SB at age 39 (in his 17th season)
  • Payton Manning was 30 when he first won SB  (in his 9th season)
  • Drew Brees was 30 when he first won SB (in his 9th season)
  • A number of HoF Qbs went to SBs in their late 30s or around age 30

Its not impossible dudes. Cam's going to have to become more of a pocket passer as he gets to 32-33 and later , but as long as we have Cam and Luke we got a shot

We just need a good OC , and a gamebuster on offense. draft well and defense will keep us in games , but we're sorely misssing a talented signal caller and a great talent or 2 on offense to ascend to the next level imo.

With JR? Yea we mighta been fuged . But with a new owner? The opens possibilities for a new GM, OC, much better talent on offense .

I am more worried by the little amounts of talent we have added to this team in the past 3 drafts. I know they haven't been in the league long and don't expect these players to be elite in 1 season, but it seems like a lot of the players we have drafted are either lazy or have not improved one bit since being drafted.

If we keep drafting like we have in the past 3 seasons, we are going to be closer to the present-day Browns than the Superbowl

Windows in the nfl are a myth.  Parity rains supreme in this league.

As long as you have a capable franchise QB, your window will always be open.

The minute you lose that, you are in trouble. Unless of course you can Field a historically dominant defense.

agreed, look at the Packers, Patriots, Steelers, Hawks, etc.

it seems like they've been in contention every year for the past 10 years or so. Window will always be open as long as Cam is under center.

Yeh,... like it’s a bad thing that Cam will be 29 next season? He’s weathered a lot, 8 season in, should be lights out for him as long as he’s healthy again.

luke 26? TD is far from done, Stewart is far from done.. Ryan will stick around while his brother plays, Olsen has a lot of gas left—

Stewart said he’s committed to being here, I wouldn’t be surprised if he agrees to a big pay cut to stay,... his name isn’t Deangelo, he’s a Panther for life.

I wish we could fast forward to free agency, Vikings Steelers Super Bowl,... Case Keenum wins Super Bowl MVP.... that would be awesome.

Agree with all but stew...he is done

So with 50 yards between them Kamara and Ingram are done also correct?

every team we play comes at us like the Panthers did those 2.

when cam is running and receivers are catching, it opens. Stewart gets 100 yard games, chunk runs and jumps over for touchdowns.

stewart isn’t done, maybe with the Panthers but we will see.

When the QB has more rushing yds than your feature back it is a problem

Yeh I agree but it’s the symptom not the cause.

fix the problem not the side effect.

get a legit passing game in here and then see what happens.

omg Stewart is come back player of the year.

I like your persepctive with projecting players ages and being positive about our current WR core. Byrd and Samuel showed rare speed and solid hands in limited time . I really would like to see them both pack on 10lbs of solid muscle, polish their WR skills, and play an entire health season
