For Everyone Worrying About Closing Windows for A Super Bowl

Recommended Posts

Cam is 29 heading into next season (Will be year #8)

Luke is 27 heading into next season

Short  is 29 heading into next season

Yea, TD will be 35 , RKalil will be 33 , Olsen 33 , Stew 31

I'd say this is a little worrying with all our real stars getting near 30 or over 30. But just to inject some positivety:

  • John Elway didnt win a Super Bowl till age 37 (in his 15th season)  (With a better all around team, better coaching staff)
  • Payton Manning won a SB at age 39 (in his 17th season)
  • Payton Manning was 30 when he first won SB  (in his 9th season)
  • Drew Brees was 30 when he first won SB (in his 9th season)
  • A number of HoF Qbs went to SBs in their late 30s or around age 30

Its not impossible dudes. Cam's going to have to become more of a pocket passer as he gets to 32-33 and later , but as long as we have Cam and Luke we got a shot

We just need a good OC , and a gamebuster on offense. draft well and defense will keep us in games , but we're sorely misssing a talented signal caller and a great talent or 2 on offense to ascend to the next level imo.

With JR? Yea we mighta been fuged . But with a new owner? The opens possibilities for a new GM, OC, much better talent on offense .

I wouldnt call it a final window, but the next 2 seasons are crucial admittedly in terms of Olsen , Kalil, TD.  I think Stewart and TD can be replaced , but Kalil and Olsen are critical .

But if we have good enough GM then we should be able to reload at C, OLB, TE, RB , in the next 3-4 drafts. Saints showed this year how having 1 great draft can totally change the fate of a team. We could get TE RB and C all this year if we really wanted to and get a OLB next years.

My point being its not all doom and gloom even tho Cam IS getting older.  He'll just be relying more on actual RBs and better talent around him as he ages, which isnt all a bad thing.

Our window closed when the Broncos closed it in the Super Bowl. We were one of the greatest teams in NFL history and they exposed us. Our coaching staff has failed to adjust to how teams play us now. And we just locked them up even longer. With new ownership/management coming in, they may decide to blow the whole thing up and get rid of a lot of players and start from scratch. If Cam is still around it may be a long time before we have the pieces around him to win a SuperBowl. but that's just how I feel things could play out. Hopefully I am wrong

I think the window is still wide open. The age thing isn’t that big of a deal if you consider that Olsen is a basically receiver in this offense. QB’s age well and Luke is right in the middle of his prime.

I am with you though that Kalil and Stewart need replacements.

Many of us thought the Saints window was closed and were in cap hell. Then they killed the last two drafts.

well they also already won a SB but I get your point . Just one year of great draft and FA can totally change a team.

HELL even just getting ONE player can totally change a team if they are HoF level.

All up to Hurney and whoever the hell our next GM is.

Windows in the nfl are a myth.  Parity rains supreme in this league.

As long as you have a capable franchise QB, your window will always be open.

The minute you lose that, you are in trouble. Unless of course you can Field a historically dominant defense.

Idk, it just seems like for every hole we ignored for the last few years and patched with some UDFA or league-minimum vet, another three spouted up.  Add to that the fact that we were what?  The league's 3rd oldest team?  That's not good.  The core still has several prime years left, but the reason we haven't won yet is having such a subpar supporting cast, not our core.  So, we need a ton of turnover with a huge influx of talent, which seems almost impossible with cap restrictions.

My other concern in contrast to the examples you provided of stars winning later in their career...  the NFL allowed them to win because it made for a great story.  I think the NFL hates us and Cam, and thus, anything we do, we will have to overcome our opponents AND the league and their officials.

The view would be much better with Hunter Henry ready to take over for Olsen, Pocic ready to take over for Kalil, Any number of RBs over the last couple years coulda taken over for Stew, and I don't even know wtf the Shaq pick was a lot of players within 10 picks of him are suck but coulda got Collins I guess that draft was pretty poo after the top 18 picks in it's entirety.

I don't even know who said the window is closed or w/e, it's mostly about Shula wasting it for us.

I know people will worry about Cam getting older and his running, but one thing I'll also point out, especially from the 2nd half yesterday...

Cam wasn't running much.  He WAS however, dropping dimes.  Screw some of the designed runs, let Cam be a QB, roll him out, scramble when needed, etc. Shula is going to Shula, which screws this entire premise, but Cam proved (again) yesterday that he's got the accuracy in him to be deadly...without diving up the middle for 3 yards on 2nd down.  Get him some help, (and keep him healthy) and I guarantee some of his inconsistency goes away as well.
