It's surprising for 4th and 5th round WRs to never record a single catch. Long-term, sure many mid-rounders don't pan out but they usually do something.

Pilares and Adams were KR/PR's primarily.

Let's take a look at the 2017 Draft to see how the the lower round guys fared this season.

4th Round

#110: Jaguars - Dede Westbrook, 7 GM, 5 GS, 27 Rec, 339 yds, 1 TD

#117: Rams - Josh Reynolds, 16 GM, 1 GS, 11 Rec, 104 yds, 1 TD

#118: Eagles - Mack Hollins, 16 GM, 16 Rec, 226 yds, 1 TD

#128: Bengals - Josh Malone, 11 GM, 7 GS, 6 Rec, 63 yds, 1 TD

#133: Cowboys - Ryan Switzer, no receiving stats. Used as KR/PR

#139: Chiefs - Jehu Chesson, 12 GM, 1 GS, 2 Rec, 18 yds

#141: Jets - Chad Hansen, 15 GM, 1 GS, 9 Rec, 94 yds

5th Round

#166: Eagles - Shelton Gibson, 5 GM, 2 Rec, 11 yds

#170: Vikings - Rodney Adams, 1 GM, no stats

#172: Broncos - Isaiah McKenzie, no receiving stats. Used as KR/PR

#175: Packers - DeAngelo Yancey, no games played.

#177: 49ers - Trent Taylor, 15 GM, 1 GS, 43 Rec, 430 yds, 2 TD

6th Round

#209: Redskins - Robert Davis, 1 GM, no stats

7th Round

#219: Vikings - Stacey Coley, 4 GM, no receiving stats. Used as KR/PR

#226: Seahawks - David Moore, 1 GM, no stats

#237: Dolphins - Isaiah Ford, no games played

#239: Cowboys - Noah Brown, 13 GM, 1 GS, 4 Rec, 33 yds

That's for their rookie year. I was posting career stats.

I am aware but the point is that those guys often don't produce. I will make the same list from year that Pilares was drafted(2011). Players still active in bold.

4th Round

#107: Seahawks - Kris Durham, 27 GM, 16 GS, 55 Rec, 699 yds, 3 TD. Career 2011-2014

#111: Dolphins - Clyde Gates, 32 GM, 4 GS, 30 Rec, 365 yds. Career 2011-2013

#112: Rams - Greg Salas, 29 GM, 3 GS, 50 Rec, 704 yds, 1 TD. Career 2011-2016

#114: Jaguars - Cecil Shorts, 70 GM, 43 GS, 229 Rec, 2979 yds, 14 TD. Career 2011-2016

#123: Ravens - Tandon Doss, 35 GM, 2 GS, 26 Rec, 428 yds, 1 TD. Career 2011-2013

5th Round

#132: Panthers - Kealoha Pilares, 20 GM, no receiving stats. Used as KR/PR. Career 2011-2013

#148: Raiders - Denarius Moore, 56 GM, 37 GS, 142 Rec, 2169 yds, 17 TD. Career 2011-2015

#153: Jets - Jeremy Kerley, 98 GM, 39 GS, 268 Rec, 3109 yds, 13 TD

#155: Redskins - Niles Paul, 82 GM, 26 GS, 68 Rec, 856 yds, 2 TD

6th Round

#167: Bengals - Ryan Whalen, 17 GM, 11 Rec, 80 yds. Career 2011-2013

#176: Cowboys - Dwayne Harris, 88 GM, 11 GS, no receiving stats. Used as KR/PR.

#178: Redskins - Aldrick Robinson, 70 GM, 5 GS, 69 Rec, 1191 yds, 9 TD

#182: 49ers - Ronald Johnson, no games played.

7th Round

#227: Jets - Scotty McKnight, no games played.

#236: Vikings - Stephen Burton, 19 GM, 3 GS, 15 Red, 149 yds, 1 TD. Career 2011-2013

#241: Raiders - David Ausberry, 34 GM, 11 Rec, 120 yds. Career 2011-2014

#249: Cardinals - DeMarco Sampson, 12 GM, 3 Rec, 36 yds. Career 2011

As you can see, not many left or have been terribly productive. Only about 3 had much statistical impact and of those only one is still in the NFL. I am not defending the selections, I just consider it a major win if you get anything at all out of a 4th round or later pick.

We need fresh blood at defensive end and maybe tackle if Star cant be resigned. Im not sure what you do with Shaq Thompson. Hes a decent linebacker but he's not stepped up to the level our defense needed. TD won't be getting any faster and perhaps a big time safety can help tighten things up back there.

A young talented Tight End and bruising tailback could help this offense. If your top three WRs are Funches, Byrd, and Samuel. I do think we will be fine at WR. Does drafting another kid really help us now? Maybe if he has legit return skillz.

So Pilares was the only guy that year who was drafted in the 5th round or higher who never recorded an NFL catch
