Hurney handled the teams salery very well for the most of his tenure. The CBA being redone tied his hands. He had to hold off on extending Vets he normally would have extended before.  When the CBA finially got done, we had a lot of players deserving and needing their extensions. That's what truly put us in CAP he'll.

This isn't accurate.

I think a lot of people forget how few high dollar players are really on a roster.  I would guess most teams really only h ave 4-6 guys with cap hits over $10m any given year, and probably another handful making $5-$10M.

I'm guessing here but when he refers to the "layout of the whole roster" he might be referring to the fact that alot of the times those high dollar players are somewhat scattered throughout your positional groups.

In regards to Norwell  we already have 3 high priced players (Kalil, Kalil, and Turner) on the offensive line.  If we were to move on from Matt and/or Ryan this year or next I wouldn't expect us to replace either with a high dollar player if we were to resign Norwell this year.

I could actually see us resigning Norwell and then both Kalils leaving after next year.  If I understand Matt's contract correctly it would make more sense to move on after next year and Ryan's contract ends also.  If we plan on replacing either cheaply it would be wise to draft replacements this year, unless the staff thinks Moton can move into the tackle spot.

We have a top heavy roster when it comes to the cap.  I think I counted 6 players making up 50+% of the cap...we have some talent here, but some of it is getting long in the tooth.

Yeah, okay.

He never handled the cap well, he stayed under the cap by restructuring contracts, and backloading deals...it's why it was so hard to cut some of those players.

DG on the other hand usually gave this team an out after a max of 2 years...Hurney couldn't afford to do that as his ass was always up against the cap.

Much smarter to front load vs. backload these deals.

I struggle...Bradberry and Worely aren't cutting it...should we draft there or will this finally be their breakout season?

They would look better with a better Safety tandem behind them....as would Luke and Shaq with a better CB tandem behind them.

Maybe...but I'm not sold.  A lot of burns were underneath and outs, something a safety is not going to fix in our zones.

You know Hurney didn't start at GM in 2009? We were in good cap shape before then.

But how much of that was JR influenced? Part of the reason DG isn't here is how he treated "family". JR may have been like do whatever you have to keep them here even if you have to overpay them.

    • His lack of statistical production is a massive red flag. The guy has worked out like Superman but has the stats of a total JAG. Not an NFL JAG. A college JAG that isn't even on the NFL radar. His stats are traaaaaash.
