Ron Rivera likely gone with new owner

I dont know if anybody picked up on it, but if Cam says he got the feeling that some were just happy being the playoffs, isn't that a Ron Rivera problem? Ron is the HC, no player should feel content just playing in the playoffs.

Bingo. And it's not like it hasn't happened before. It also looked like they were just happy to be in the superbowl as well. With that mindset, no wonder we laid a big fat egg against the Falcons for the division. It's always "it's good enough" with this coaching staff, which is why I hope they are gone when new ownership comes. Again, Cam, Luke, TD, and Pep seem to be the ONLY people in this organization that actually cares about winning.

If you just bought this team would you be satisfied with RR as your head coach ?  I sure as hell wouldn't.

There's not a lot of 2x coach of the year's hanging around so I would be grateful as the new owner that RR is the coach.

Ron survived the Dave Gettleman hiring when a lot of GM's like having their guys in place. I don't think it's crazy to assume Ron will stay with Carolina after a sell. I also think it's shortsighted to think that new ownership wouldn't recognize that Rivera is a damn good coach. I'd argue that having Rivera extended through 2020 would be a perk of buying the team. Rivera has taken Carolina to the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years and is, imo, easily in the top 10 list of current NFL coaches. He'd be hired by another team in an absolute heartbeat if he were to be let go.

Hard to imagine them getting rid of a coach that has a super bowl appearance and has 4 playoff appearances. Coaching consistency in the league is at a low.

Never had a back to back winning season.    That's not really consistent.

Let's get honest here folks, Rivera is an average coach, and a couple games a year, above average.    He's a bit better than Fox.     We're going into what, 8th season next year, and he STILL does not understand clock management?    He's a terrible game day coach.   No doubt someone hires him fast, but it would be a franchise that is OK being mediocre and not being terrible, but not getting over the hump.    That's the Panthers basically, and, kind of always has been because of the coaches we hire.     It's completely possible the new owners are OK with mediocrity, and they keep Rivera though.     I just wouldn't expect anything amazing unless he changes his ways over night (like realizing Shula sucks and other things).

I respectfully disagree with a lot of these posts.  Rivera coached a hell of a game yesterday.  He had the team ready to play from the start, and had a good gameplan to stop the run.  New Orleans offense is as tough to stop as anyone's in the league.  They made them one-dimensional and Brees made incredible throw after incredible throw.

Even Shula called a good game.  The offense moved the ball at will.  Clay missed a TD ball a high-schooler should catch.  Olsen missed a potential TD he grabs at least 50% of the time.  I like everyone get made at the catch-all statement of "missed opportunities," but that really is what yesterday was about.  Look at TOP, overall yards, etc.  We led TOP, and the yardage was even.  New Orleans hit more explosive plays and scored TD's instead of FG's.

And simply put, New Orleans is just a better team than we are this year.  The Panthers still had a very good team and had a great season, but we lost 3 times to them, and none were a fluke.

I'm like every fan out there in that I won't be satisfied short of a Lombardi, but you've got to find some enjoyment as a fan in the journey and even in years that end short of a SB win or you'll just be miserable all the time (though there is a subset in every fan base that lives for that).

I am super proud of this team.  This year had many highs and some lows.  No one gave us a chance yesterday, and the team played their hearts out and almost won.  Truthfully, though, this team wasn't winning a SB with our WR corp.

But I will take a year like this.  It was exciting, and this team fought through an unbelievable amount of adversity.

And ultimately, a lot of that credit should go to the coaches, especially Rivera.  He has earned everything he has gotten in this league.

A new owner not keeping him would be a travesty that would set our team back big time.

Liked your post. I've been telling people all day at the office that the Saints were just better than us this year. That said, we still almost beat them on the road during one of Brees's best game of the year.

We need to fill in some holes on both sides of the ball AND we need to do something about the run game. If we could've run the ball better yesterday we could've given our defense more rest and kept Brees off the field. I really think we need a new OC. Shula wasn't terrible yesterday, but I think a more competent OC probably could've/would've helped us win that game, even with our mediocre receiving corps.

I'd have to add Olsen to this list, but otherwise, I think you're on the right track.
