Mort Mentions Pep as Deadline Looms

Proudiddy

I'm assuming he won't be here next year anyway.

the odds of anyone offering a first, let alone a first +, are about as good as proudiddy cutting his losses and stop trying to justify merriman replacing diggs.

so um, not very high

You're bringing up ill informed opinions, inflated with false confidence and internet bravado... You. Stop. Please.

Even coming out of college there was debate as to what position he would play in the NFL. He could play LB or DE in a 4-3, and be a LB in a 3-4. He was marketed as a hybrid player. His skills translate to either position.

The hilarity is, this argument is coming from someone who has repeatedly said Dante Rosario should be moved to WR. HA! Haaaa! Haaa! *fart* Haaaa! Amusing. "A position he has never played in the NFL. What was I thinking?"

I was under the impression that once a team tags a player and the season starts that team cannot trade that player until next year. Can someone clarify?

The team owns their rights period.Remember Jared Allen, and most recently Matt Cassell, they were traded after being franchised.Under the franchise tag there is no no trade clause

see if you can find the difference between a 3-4 OLB with no range, lateral movement, diminished burst, and banged up knee moving to 4-3 OLB in the middle of the season into a new defense and a small tight end who already lines up outside just making the switch to a different position in the offense he's been running for three years.

see if you can.

I don't plan on Pep being dealt. If Fox thinks he has any chance of turning the season around, he's betting that Pep will be a part of it. Plus, I think our FO is too scared to rock the boat 6 weeks into a season, regardless of our record.

I just hope we can find an extra piece to add into the DT Rotation. I would've liked a young QB to develop, but there's not much to choose from.

Yea being as that I never said a team would, I agree, not very high.

Hence the "I would welcome" part of the whole idea there yea...

This season is going to suck anyway so getting something for him would be better than nothing.

If he showed any signs of wanting to be here, or signing a long term contract, I wouldn't trade him. May as well be preemptive.

Seriously Fiz, joking aside.

Do you train Merriman? Do you practice with him? I haven't seen any signs of deterioration in his athleticism. I don't think his skills have diminished despite his knee injury last year. I think he's sandbagging just like Pep was until this last week b/c he's pouting about his situation.

And there IS a difference between Rosario and Merriman if they were to switch positions. As you pointed out, Merriman would be switching teams, defenses, terminology, etc. Rosario has been here and would have some familiarity with the offense and different positions assignments. But, occasionally lining up at the slot or flanker is totally different than actually playing the intricacies of the position. Rosario would not be able to make those adjustments to make an impact in half a season. So we'll call it a draw there.

I like Rosario too, but I don't see him as a WR. I think he's perfect where he is, but I think he should be seeing a lot more playing time. He's a perfect H-Back/TE. His blocking is best utilized on the edges and lining up there gives him advantages in speed that he wouldn't have otherwise (in most cases.)

As for Merriman, he can still play. And in fact, he may be better served to play LB in a 4-3 in terms of durability now. Will it happen? I doubt it.

I would trade Peppers in a minute if a team offered a 1st, even maybe two 2nds. Maybe Peppers can even help the Panthers out and have another good game before the deadline. Might make some other GM interested a bit more. I say all this because there is no way this Panthers team is making the playoffs and if they do happen to squeak in I actually think they might be able to do that with or without Peppers.

If some team would make the trade Hurney and Fox have to do it. That would actually show me maybe they have some balls now, not just playing to save their asses, and continue to set this franchise back more years.

But, one thing we're forgetting is, Mr. Richardson would have to sign off on it... Don't see that happening either, b/c I think he has a soft spot for Pep.[/QUOTE]

He might have a soft spot..............but he still has an empty spot in his trophy case that won't be filled as long as Pep is on this team.

Both of those players were traded before the season, after signing their FT contracts. And they had value based on performance vs contract dollar amount, unlike Pep at 17 million.

Only an idiot would assume Pep at 17 mill this year.
