Panthers have so many needs for Hurney to fill.

There are aging vets all over the lineup without viable replacments either.  Both Kalils, both DEs, both safeties.  Star might need a replacement and we really don't have one there. Olsen & Dickson at TE, Power back in Stewart (CAP's contract is almost up and he won't be back).  If you don't want to develop two starting corners on the field again then you need then its time to get some in the system again (Captain is clearly unhappy as well).  If Shaq is slated to replace Davis then another rangy outside linebacker or S/LB hybrid is needed.  Backup QB has been neglected for what seems like ever and you could even look at kicker again to save some cash.  I'd go with:

#1 Offensive Line.  Multiple players.  LT would be ideal, Young center too, and we might needing Norwell's replacement too.  I should come as no surprise but if you keep Cam clean and you'll be stunned at the offensive improvement.  Brees had that luxury last night.  Wentz all season (Keenum too).  Prescott and Carr last season.

#2 WR.  Depending on how the staff views Samuel we need someone to play the flanker opposite Funchess or in the slot.  I like Funchess as the split end, I'm still high on Samuel because the offense was ALOT more wide open when he was inserted into the lineup.  I think Byrd is a great #4 too.  I won't be surprised to see Shepard cut this offseason because he is being overpaid for just special teams duty.

#3 Young DE.  Hall is in the system, we'll see how Cox is viewed for next year when he's no longer a necessity. I'd grind my teeth and wait on the secondary because we need to keep pumping youth into DE because it takes awhile to develop and we are running out of time to develop one yet alone 2.

I think we have to decide who we are going to cut.  We have to decide if we are going to keep CJ, Stewart and Adams.  Are we going to Tag Norwell.   Is Pepper's coming back?

I like Gettleman's approach to free agency.   Bring in vets for just about every position of need.  Gettleman was NOT very good at drafting and compared to Hurney, Hurney was better at drafting.  Hurney hit on all his #1 picks with the exception of Otah {(traded 2009 #1 pick (too injury prone)} and Everett Brown (traded away 2010 1st for him) all the other he nailed pretty good.  Gettleman nailed Star and CMC but the other years we didn't get Starters in round 1.

Hurneny in Round two I think he needs to take a coffee break and let the Ass't GM do it cause he sucked at our 2nd Round picks.   Furthermore don't let him draft WRs.  Let someone else make that decision.  Colbert and Jarrett still haunt us.

This team has sorely needed a top caliber safety. Either we need to draft one high or pick up the best FA who is still young enough to be a franchise player. I think last night was the first time where I really regret us not taking Landon Collins. Imagine-- we have Collins, no Shaq but keep AJ instead.

We need a new power running back and we need to re-vamp the run game. We have too much talent on the o-line to be so bad at running the ball. Something has to be fixed.

We need a high upside #3 WR from a big school program. I believe Samuel will be back much improved next year. I think he and Funchess can make a dynamic duo. I think Byrd is legit. Shepherd needs to be gone and we need to use one of our 3rds on some big name school's #1 WR who is flying under the radar.

We need to draft a new C. Kalil won't last much longer. I think he's great, but clearly this year he showed himself to be hanging by a thread.

We need another DE.

We need a new OLB to be a playmaker like TD was. TD is burning out and Shaq can't tackle when it matters. Luke might be able to call out plays but otherwise he seems not as powerful as a playmaker.

We need to find a TE to be Greg's heir. He's also winding down.

It's not a Hurney fill, but I'd say replace Wilks.  I think the D took a step back this year.  New coaching will help out masking the flaws of our back four.

That being said:

1. Pass Rusher.  While the numbers look good, we could have been much more consistent.  We need someone who can be an absolute terror off the edge, especially if Peppers retires for good.

2. Safety help.  Not sure if this draft has what we need (like I'm out of that loop right now), but we need someone who can be an upgrade to Mike Adams.  Coleman had played his best when he has a good buddy next to him.

3.  2nd Tight End - the Ghost of Hunter Henry draft...  We saw once Olsen went down, we lots a lot of play making.  We need a young guy who can take over 88's mantle in a few years.

4. Quality back up Center.  For having two of the best guards in the NFL (Turner's history to go with Norwell's All Pro status), we still got hammered inside running.  Larsen is a good backup, but we need a real successor to Kalil.

5.  Stewart replacement.  He's given us a heck of a Career, but it's time for us to move on from him.  We need someone who can be that hammer, but with a little more speed.

So long as we have Cam, we have a chance (as we saw).  But we need someone who can put the pressure on an offense and some more weapons for Cam.

If you consider everyone coming back healthy next year, including the draft picks who never played a snap, the most obvious remaining need is safety. We need a center fielder with speed who can help our corners when they get beat. Both Coleman and Adams are playing out of position when asked to stay deep and cover.

Beyond that we mostly need depth or competition behind aging and inexperienced players. Someone's gonna have to replace Ryan long term, it might be Larsen but we haven't seen enough to say that for sure.

Olsen looked great last night but we need to draft his heir, I actually think a second legit pass catching tight end is a bigger need than receiver. Dickson is too slow and unathletic, he should never a top option in the passing game.

We need more defensive ends on the roster to challenge guys like Horton and Daeshon Hall. It'd be great if Peppers came back but counting on a 38 year old to bookend your pass rush sounds like bad news.

And yes obviously we need more weapons for Cam. Whether that's a receiver, running back , or tight end depends on who's available when we draft or who we can afford in FA. They key is not to go nuts and over react due to injuries. Don't reach for a guy because you feel we need a player at a certain position.

The fact that Hurney is going to be making all these decisions makes me feel depressed as hell, but to be honest, his one big move during to season , trading KB, was a smart one. Hopefully he continues that trend.

Safety and DE in the draft, WR in FA.  We need a Veteran WR that can make an impact immediately next year.  We need Landry or Watkins...Watkins would be a better deal $$$ wise, but you get that scare of the injury bug with him.  We would be coming out of our pockets for Landry, and possibly losing a piece somewhere else on our team to get him.  Possibly Norwell?

The Saints murdered the draft so hard last year, we needed those players too and will prop up NO for the foreseable future and keep us down a peg on that one draft alone.

NO smart enough to probably draft a QB at the end of the first this year to prepare for Brees leaving.....we got Hurney lol

Also I don't want to poo on the Hunter Henry Huddle Circle Jerk but......Hunter Henry had a sophomore slump time will tell on him

But I agree a young talent is necessary at TE, as well as C, DE, LT, S

We have plenty of young talent at WR we really need a reliable number vet WR

our defense can hold up another year , just get some decent free agents . in the draft go heavy on offense , get some deep threat receivers a later rd power rb to replace stewart ,, we need all the help we can get on offense . Free agency is big for us this is the time to resign star and spend!!!!!!!
