The Failure of the Gettleman era in Carolina. Close, but no cigar. [Don't want to read a mini rant, don't open!]

I love the "meddling owner" excuse is ONLY used for his blunders. Any positives were all Gettlemagic! Maybe JR controlled everything? Every draft pick and every contract. Hurney and Gettleman were just faces for the public. Richardson was probably doing the scouting as well.

Only blunders for me were signing Khalil to a high contract and a few draft picks I would choose different.

Would not have let Ginn go as well.

Overall, I was pleased with DG. Really like his no nonsense approach business 1st approach.

There is no perfect GM who doesn't make errors.

Now with Hurney he will probably sign Olsen and Davis and Stewart to max contracts lol bc of loyalty and feels.

So based on this response, I'm gonna assume that if anyone says Hurney's ridiculous contracts were mandated by Richardson, you'll disagree with that notion.

Correct?

Sure, because I'm of the opinion that neither were good GM's so I feel no need to defend either of them.

There someone goes with a Hurney reference again...

Anyway!

Signing Kalil like he was a top 10 LT, making several suspect picks in the draft, and letting Ginn walk without really addressing the void, much less upgrading the position (all while your window to win a championship was wide open) is not some small blunder.  The way that J-No was handled was odd, oddly timed, unprecedented and badly mismanaged. But go ahead and lessen the extent of the reverberations if it makes you and others feel better.

Jerry could have told him to spend money this past offseason.

Every GM misses on draft picks.

Samuel could have replaced Ginn if not for injury.

There was no way we were keeping Norman. That kind of money is reserved for more important positions. Letting him walk and getting a 3rd was the right thing to do.

well said , thats the truth about gettleman . great personality but neglected our needs . we were so close to a sb run when we had norman all we needed was to go out spend money and build around that team and we let players walk and got hurt meanwhile the saints that never have cap space managed to fix their defense in one year .

There is a reason he got another GM position 6 months after being fired while Hurney sat on his ass for 5 years without a sniff.

DG was definitely not an issue.

agree with the 1st part.. disagree with the second..

he was a genius in the FA bargin bin market - but truly fugged us over in certain areas (LT, DE, CB, WR, RB) for sure.. no long term solutions - only stop gaps that fit the system for a year and then fizzled out
