Kinda don't mind the defer...simply because I can already imagine a 3 and out, with a loud Superdome, and Shula having trouble calling in the run-run-pass calls.

Ron trusts the defense more, as he should...but it would also be a nice way to pump Cam up by saying we're giving you the ball first, go get 'em while everyone is hyped up.

That's why Ron should change his strategy. He should show that he trusts the offense for once.

Middle school flag football team I coach uses the same strategy.  Underdogs in title game this year to team that beat us handily twice (three if you include the preseason game).  We changed our strategy, got momentum, and somehow hung on.  The proof is in the pudding Ron, take the ball!

Ron hates pudding.

Your defense is fresh and ready to go.  Forcing a punt on the opening series is mandatory.

I like if we can get the ball with three to four minutes to go.   If you can get a 10 to 14 point swing from the end of the first half to the beginning of the 2nd is huge.

Most team employ this as it can make a huge difference in the final outcome.

If we by some change leave a minute or so on the clock it also forces offenses to be a little aggressive to try and match your score.  That can lead to a turnover.  A La the Miami game.

I like the coin flip strategy.
