Agree? Disagree? Indifferent?

We've been one of the top scoring teams at the end of halves, which combined with getting the ball first in the second half is a great opportunity. Whether the offense wastes it is besides the point, the point is the opportunities are there. I have been perfectly happy with our policy to defer.

I don’t really think it matters much in the grand scheme of things. If the first drive “sets the tone” and we go three-and-out, then are we screwed the rest of the game? Both scenarios are equally likely. It’s on our coaching/players to be mentally strong enough to overcome any hurdles in the game and play strong for 4 full quarters.

That being said, I don’t like his overall reluctance to change. This quote could basically sum up his entire philosophy, not just the coin flip.

I think they should change their coin toss strategy. Getting the ball first and setting the tone could help the offense get on track.

Thoughts?

Most of the time we start off dead and usually have a 3 and out... I'd much rather have the ball at halftime when we have had a chance to warm up

Kinda don't mind the defer...simply because I can already imagine a 3 and out, with a loud Superdome, and Shula having trouble calling in the run-run-pass calls.

Ron trusts the defense more, as he should...but it would also be a nice way to pump Cam up by saying we're giving you the ball first, go get 'em while everyone is hyped up.
