Cam Newton the Fastest NFL QB, Says NYTimes

According to this article on the New York Times website, Cam Newton clocked the fastest in-game, on-field speed for QB's in the NFL this season at 20.08 mph. The fastest on-field speed for all NFL offensive players was recorded by Leonard Fournette at 22.05 mph. Defensive back Byron Jones was fastest at any position at 22.11mph. The article is behind a pay wall: https://www.nytimes.com/2018/01/04/sports/football/nfl-speed-leonard-fournette.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=wide-thumb&module=mini-moth&region=top-stories-below&WT.nav=top-stories-below&_r=0

Fair use excerpt:

"Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson’s top speed of 20.14 m.p.h. is slightly faster than Cam Newton’s 20.08. But in a twist, Wilson reached that speed playing some defense — chasing down Rams safety John Johnson III after an interception to save a touchdown. After the game, Wilson said the tackle “took me back to my high school days when I used to play corner.”

So Wilson is the actual fastest...?

The article is confusing on this point, but what they say is that Cam reached that speed running with the ball and Wilson was chasing down the man who intercepted his pass so technically, he was not playing offense when he reached top speed...

Those mph times are higher if the player is on a long run of at least 60 yards. It takes a runner 60 yards to reach top speed

Excellent point and the article states that these speeds were recorded using chips in the players shoulder pads during long runs.

But Wilson is still a QB no matter what he's doing on the field, that's his position. It doesn't say fastest player on offense, it says fastest QB.

Going to be? We're in the process of that

I think he could play for several more years but it depends on if we can actually field a consistent OL/WR combo which we have yet to be able to do astoundingly enough.

People are rationalizing our FO's failures right now, but eventually they are going to wonder what if. Especially pertaining to the 2016 and 2017 offseasons.

people refuse to see it, but he's on the tail end of his prime.

Yeah I suppose that's why he singlehandedly dragged our offense to 11 wins and a playoff berth.

Who really knows when the lights will shut off.

All I know is this franchise could have and should have done more. We should have been all in the last 2 years, instead we kept trying to bargain shop.
