Time to sound off.... Panthers at Saints Predictions

The key to this game is getting pressure on Brees when he drops back to pass. He's 38 years old, not a big guy, and never that mobile to begin with. If we can lay a few hits on him early, make him feel it, then I think he starts getting rid of the ball earlier than he'd like. That will let us get our back seven running downhill and stopping Kamara/Ingram from breaking off big runs.

If we can combine that with being effective running the ball ourselves, that will allow us to control the flow of the game and keep their crowd out of it. A few long scoring drives early by the offense will go a long way to helping us leave with a W. Get the lead and hold it, force them to throw more than they'd like with Brees under duress, potentially leading to a turnover or two.

I don't think we need a virtuoso performance from Cam or a bunch of lucky turnovers and special teams plays to win this game. Just play our game, be disciplined, follow the same formula that's created most of our success during the last few years. The Vikings game is the best example from this season of how I want this team to play going forward.

Panthers - 24

Saints - 14

A simplified offense, necessary to correct the issues from the past couple weeks and in the deafening dome, capitalizes on our biggest strength and the Saints' biggest weakness. The Panthers remember who they are and dominate on the ground. Stewart goes for 100 (tough yards, nothing big and no scores) and Cam and CMC each add 50-75 and a TD apiece. With the Saints on their heels, Olsen works the middle of the field for 80 and a TD. Lattimore holds Funchess in check, but Cam and Clay finally hit on a bomb.

The Panthers shut down the Saints running game and hold them under 100 yards combined. Down by several scores, Brees does Brees things and throws for 40-50 attempts to keep it interesting, but timely sacks and an INT in the fourth keep us from sweating too much.

Panthers win 34-21.

I'm undeniably a homer, but contrary to what the negative nancies are saying, we DO match up well with the Saints if we play old-school Panthers football. They rank 23rd against the run, and that doesn't factor in losing both Klein and Vaccaro. Kalil, Turner and Norwell are as good of an interior run-blocking OL as the Saints could possibly face. We can, and we will, punch them in the mouth.

remember this is the first game we will have either Ryan Kalil or Greg Olsen, both of whom improve the run and passing game, while their D has lost Klien and Vaccarro... Norwell will be pulling right all day and FATHERing Mante Te'o and his fake girl friend. The panthers finally bottle up kamara and Ingram, but are burnt by Micheal Thomas some. In the end we score the go ahead under the 2 minute warning, Pep forces a strip sack and we knee on it and are on to Philly.

24-23 panthers.

33-10 Panthers.  Defense comes up huge in this game.  Offense will be better but still not great.  Without Klein, look for carolina to have a decent day running the ball. being down at halftime, brees will start to force more passes and be intercepted twice in the 2nd half.

40-10

Defense never even forces a punt.

Funchess TD

Cam 3 picks.

I hate it, but I think you are about right.  I don’t see this lame offense scoring much in this game and Brees will pick us apart.
