It's been a rumor for a few weeks and it's legit. Do I personally think it's going to happen? I think it depends on these playoffs.

I would assume never but its and honest question.

Bill Belichek was head coach of the Jets for a day before he left to take the Patriots job.  Different circumstances and the Jets were not a playoff team, although they did finish above 500 the next season.  But its the closest I can think of considering he never lost a game as the Jets head coach.  

Unless you are counting retired in that.  In which case you can add Joe Gibbs as he took the skins to the playoffs in 92, and then retired.  And several others.
