Steve Smith Said Let CMC Be A RB

Here's what happened when McCaffrey got 10 or more carries this season :

  • Week 1 vs 49ers : 13 carries , 47 yards (WIN)
  • Week 9 vs ATL : 15 carries, 66 yards (WIN)
  • Week 15 vs GB : 12 carries , 63 yards  (WIN)

We're literally 3-0 in games he runs 10 or more carries

Cmc as a back only can’t work. His best attributes shine when he is a wr or catching out of the backfield. Just being a back and between the tackles won’t work.

Yes, but for us why does it seem like Shula designed our passing offense around CMC so he can very effective? Those teams passing offense weren't designed around their RB's to be effective. Rams was still throwing deep and often when Faulk was there. I'm willing to bet if we never drafted CMC, we'll be throwing down the field much more

Well that's a Shula problem and we'll always have Shula problems as long as he's here.

I'm not sure that Smitty meant that we never flex cmac out wide, but he means that CMC should be the feature back that catches passes as well like Gurley or Zeke. The games that hes been given over 10 carries , hes collectively averaged a respectable 4.4 yards per carry and we won all 3 games .

Its a total unknown what he would do with 20+ carries as a feature back, because hes literally never been given the chance to do that .

If you can’t run up the middle and break tackles you can’t be a real RB plain and simple

How much times this year has Mccaffrey ran for no gain since he can’t even push a pile for one freaking yard

He just turned 21 and will get heavier and stronger Right now he’s the same size as tiki barber mccoy and Faulk and can be a dual threat back like those guys

I'm not sure what size Faulk and McCoy were at the start of their careers but NFL.com has him listed at 211 and Lesean McCoy at 210.

Kamara is 215 and Kareem Hunt is 216, and Ladanian Tomlinson was 215 .

I think 210 is on the light end and 215 is right about the magic number CMC needs to get to . Which shouldnt be a huge problem, CMC was 205 when he started this season

And most are shorter and stockier. Better built for the pounding of the NFL. Then you have the question of whether he can maintain his quickness with added weight. Because he is not nearly as elusive as many wanted to believe and can’t afford to lose much of it. And how many tackles has he broke this year? 10? If that?

That being said, they should have given him the opportunity as featured back already. Especially when Stew was looking awful. At least you could get an idea of what you had with him, and get a compliment to him. Now, what do you get this off-season? Even if he failed as an every down back, he still damn good at his current role. And could always go back to it.

You want him to gain more weight for he can be even slower? Lol

You keep using the size comparison like it mean something, Reggie Bush was built like a bodybuilder and could bench press a car, he still couldn’t break tackles.

I don't like Shula and I didn't like the game plan we had with the Falcons but Smith is wrong. CMC is being used right. Our offense is set up to use the read option and control the clock not huge splash plays. Only problem is when you do that you put pressure on the defense and can only make little mistakes. It's a terrible idea imo because it's playing not to lose. Without going into a huge in depth explanation here's why it's not working and why CMC doesn't work.

For the offense to work the defense needs to limit opposing offenses to the 50 yard line. Has that happen?

For the read option to work Cam needs to make the right choice every time. Has that happened?

For this offense to score points the defense needs to generate turnovers. Has that happened?

For CMC to be effective WR he needs to work in space. Has that happen?

Smith is right about one thing. Shula isn't creative. He doesn't have plays that free his star players. His calling is down right predictable and he doesn't utilize his personal wisely.
