my impression was that it fell through and JR had no intervention

i think he tried trading up with what he had and couldn't get a deal, but part of the problem for him was that JR put the first round pic from 2011 out of bounds ahead of time.

either way...hurney is not a guy to be trusted. i mean his mentor was bobby beathard who was the genius behind the blockbuster trade that netted the chargers ryan leaf.

I think he might actually be referring to 2011, as if I recall correctly that was the year that the massive contracts were handed out.

Trying to force back a revolt by the players, because they all knew what had just happened in 2010.

Which is why every captain basically got an extension...plus the James Anderson contract which was REALLY the worst contract handed out during that splurge.

Also cutting Kasay but that was Hurney outsmarting himself.

Nah, Arizona turned him down. They really wanted Dan Williams in the first.

Then Hurney panicked because Arizona traded up with New England in the second and offered another deal, but Arizona instead took Daryl Washington.

Part of that move up involved a third round pick that would eventually become Armanti Edwards.

replacing kasay with onlindo mare and giving the guy, what was it a $12mil contract? yeah....i'd put that up against the james anderson contract as the worst one he offered that year.

Remember how the Panthers always had like five kickers?

Hurney firmly believed you needed a dude that could kick it out of the end zone on kickoffs. You also needed a dude that could actually kick FGs. Hurney like considers them different players/positions. Which is why he'd always waste a roster spot on rhys lloyd or whatever.

Mare was going to fill both roles. The huge contract? Just another gesture that MEAT WAS BACK ON THE MENU, BOYS!

Then the nfl competition committee moved up kickoffs and mare missed every fg anyway lmao

I don't remember that. All I remember was Richardson focusing exclusively on the CBA.

Then begging Andrew Luck not to go back to Stanford so he wouldn't be forced to draft Cam.

this just screamed solid management. he really thought he could replace kasay with just any other old guy.

also lol the first thing Hurney did was keep two kickers then lose the younger, cheaper one who went on to be the best in the league.

HURN DOG

well...gettleman really made the decision mostly idiotproof. gano has improved a lot from last year, but yeah....better option would have been the younger and cheaper guy. that doesn't exactly fit hurney's MO.

Back in june he admitted to his failures during his previous stint with the Panthers.

Just to help you avoid being wrong again.

i admit to my failings parking a car, but that doesn't mean that when it comes right down to it i'm not still going to get the car in there crooked.

i've got no reason to believe that he won't revert to bad tendencies.

i've seen way too much from him over the years to not give him the benefit of the doubt...just like people said to do with shula. aside from the 2015 year, every offense he's ever managed has been near the bottom of production. it didn't matter how many years there were between his stints in tampa bay and here (and i don't count out his tenure as HC at bama where he ran the offense there as well).

until you prove differently, you're the person you've proven yourself to be over the years.

Kicker performance is incredibly variable year to year and with the exception of both ends of the spectrum there isn’t much difference between them.

Theyre just hard to ignore when they suck ass like aguyo or mare.
