Hypothetically, if we lose Wilkes, could we bring back Foxy as our DC? I dunno if he's interested in taking a demotion at this point in his career, but who really saw Hurney coming back this year? Stranger things have happened. Personally I'd love to see Fox back in Carolina, and you know he would get the most out of our D.

I'm hoping he's actually a legitimate candidate.

The NFL frequently has one minority coach who gets several interviews but who nobody seriously looks at hiring. It's done to satisfy the letter of the Rooney Rule if not the spirit of it. Teryl Austin filled that role a few years ago.

I think he deserves to be a legitimate candidate, though I know not everyone on here agrees.

I don't think Wilks is a serious hire candidate this year. Many times a guy this early in his career gets called on a lot as part of the process of getting them moved up the ladder to a HC position, giving them some experience in the interviewing process. He is a prime candidate for the Rooney Rule when it comes to interviews, as well, which helps.

I think they'll pass on him this year due to inexperience, but I wouldn't imagine he'll be without a head coaching gig after that. The guy is talented and smart, he just needs a bit more time to season.

Rooney Rule is a big factor here. It feels too soon for Wilks considering he was in charge of this defense for just one year and it wasn't a stellar campaign.

I see the potential it just feels like a reach for him to make that jump right now. Then again Sean McVay makes it trendy to hire a HC with a limited track record.
