Dorsey available again?

There's only one reason I wouldn't want to see Pep getting traded, and that's due to still needing pressure on the QB. I'm not sure how much of an impact Dorsey would have, since I haven't seen him play.

We need a big time DT who can get to the passer consistently. If he provided that, trade Pep. If not, we still need Pep. Whether the latter is accomplished with Pep is debatable.. He still provides a lot of help on run support.. We would also be requiring CJ and Brayton to step up and play a solid role in run support.

Depending on how all of that would play out means the difference in my opinion on whether Pep can go or not...

For me, big time DT is more important than DE.. Whether Dorsey is that guy is the issue.

Yea, Peppers is dying to stay in town at the end of this season and it would be a shame to move him in order to bring in a guy like Dorsey who could anchor the D Line for a decade.

Sarcasm duly noted. However:

1) While not impossible, it is highly improbable that any team would be willing to trade for Peppers and take on his salary for this season. Remember, if Peppers doesn't want to play there, all he has to do is play under that one-year franchise contract and then he is a free agent next year. So, why would KC risk spending all of that money on a player who will walk out of town come February, especially considering their season is pretty much already tanked?

KC could conceivably franchise Peppers again in 2010, but its unlikely they would since his cost would be so high, over $20M for one season, and Peppers has proven he doesn't mind accepting ungodly sums of money in lieu of a long-term deal.

2) Not sure if franchised players can even be traded once the season starts. However, due to #1 above, I think its a moot point.

3) Trading a player with Peppers' proven ability to influence the game for a raw player with "upside" is irresponsible at best and catastrophic at worst.

So basically... it's not gonna happen.

Dorsey was a great college player, with injury issues. What has he done at the pro level for you to keep bringing him up?

By being miscast in a 3-4 team that isn't very good? Not much. Move him to a 4-3 team with more pieces in place and I bet he is an instant impact starter.

maybe, but they ran a 4-3 last year, what did he do? The cap hit they would take would be too high also.

I'm with you. I haven't watched Dorsey play much, and I doubt anybody that's touting him has either. I just don't see how anybody can have enough information to know what he's worth unless they have watched him every week. I watched a few of his college games, but that means nothing now.

Quinn would have to start over in a new system and I'm not convinced he's that good of a pro anyway.

As to Dorsey, I'm only for that trade if it does not involve giving up Peppers.

(in other words, it's not gonna happen)

I dont see how we can trade Peppers anyway. His cap hit will still be with us.

Then again the Panthers would never trade for a guy like Dorsey anyway so we need not worry.

Rookie DTs typically don't have big years, Dorsey was a solid starter last year which is good enough for his position. With time in his natural position as the 3-tech, he'll flourish.

If he is not lazy as they say. Him and Kemo next year would be a delite to watch and would allow Lewis to go back to being a 2 down player. Peppers would also benefit. If this sounds too good to be true then yep it is and we will not make a move for him.

You know, you ain't such a blankity blank after all :)

I agree with what you just said.

Dorsey is a stud waiting for the right opportunity. Somebody said we need consistent pressure on the QB and that's the reason not to get rid of Peppers.

I'm sorry? Did you say consistent

We couldn't get both of them. I'd only be willing to trade a late pick, we can't give up anymore selections unless we plan to trade someone.

But if we could pull off a player for player deal I'd be willing to give them Hayden or maybe Brayton. We can't afford to give up alot right now.

hayden definatly....no way should we trade brayton, even if this has a realistic chance of going down KC knows hayden is sorry so we'd probly have 2 trade hayden and like a 6th or two 7th round picks

No team in the right mind will a team trade a 5th overall pick who was good (not great but good) in his first year for a 6th rounder who has looked absolutely whooped every game he has started (the skins game was his best but still looked mediocre at best) even with a extra 2nd they wouldn't. My hope is we can weasel out Dorsey and a 1st for Peppers and either a 3rd or 4th. But I seriously doubt that.
