just assuaging the fears of ppl who think that gettleman is going to poach our front office

there is no front office to poach here

In the end it might be a good thing. People went apeshit when Beane left for Buffalo, but it could all be for the best seeing how things are unfolding with the Bills. Shocker I know.

Depending on who JR sells to and if we get rid of Hurney we could be in nice position for not only a culture change but a philosophy change. Or maybe I'm being too optimistic.

always thought of beane as more of a logistics guy. actually i was kind of frightened during the GM search in late 2012/early 2013 bc i thought there might be a chance that JR would’ve just said “fug it” and gotten rid of the interim tag and rolled with beane

i have no idea what the new ownership is going to be looking for in a front office. i hope they can find a guy with a great football iq that can also crunch the numbers well, and give him free reign to run the team however he wants. if the panthers tank then by all means fire the poo out of him but i don’t want to see any of this bullshit where ownership urges itself into personnel decisions like we have in the past.

There's talk that a lot of people in our front office are doing jobs they're not really qualified for.

Jerry Richardson was known to value loyalty more than ability, and it resulted in a lot of people getting promotions they didn't actually earn. Heck, why do you think Marty Hurney was getting another shot at being GM?

Strong possibility exists that if the new owners bring in someone who knows what they're doing to reorganize things, a lot of people could be demoted or looking for work.

So if anybody from our front office gets "poached" it'd likely be to a lesser position after they're let go here.

You're being too optimistic. I won't believe it until I see it

I remember when Gettleman came to the Panthers, he made a point of saying "I'm not gonna be the guy that just comes in and fires everybody".

Wonder if his experience here changed his mind on that.

I've always believed not doing some "reorganization" was a mistake, especially given how Jerry Richardson operated.

Doubt that. He always said he would give them a chance before he let peeps go. He probably saw that Ross sucked balls at drafting and he was let go asap.

Also he already worked with Ross for years.

I do not know how anybody works with JR--He develops friendships with the players--they become off limits.  He meddles behind the scenes and watches his people fall on his swords in public. Not personal, just a character issue.  A former student of mine who worked for him who now works in Buffalo told me that-something to the effect.  Generous man on one side, driven by nonsense on the other.  Remember the "pie chart" press conference?

My former student told me that JR had everything to do with Gantt getting demoted.  He wants to control the media, get the town to pay for his team, etc.  I guess he was tired of fake news and wanted us (Charlotteans) to pay for the wall, er, stadium renovations.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
