Last year was the only year that DG did a terrible job, outside of that I'd say he's been great and we are a worse team for firing him.

People quickly forget the mess that he took over, and corrected it, he had us in the Playoffs 2 years in a row while we were in Cap hell from bad Marty Hurney contracts.

the only thing I can take solace in, is the fact that I am 100% certain that Hurney will be fired and replaced shortly after new ownership takes over.

90-102 was our record under Hurney. Unreal that some people are actually nostalgic for the Hurney era. I sure as hell don't want anything to do with part two of that. Hoping the new ownership will do the smart thing and send Hurney packing after the deal gets done before the ink is dry on the paperwork.

In 5 seasons with Gettleman the Panthers had 3 postseasons (all 3 as NFC South champs and 1 trip to the Super Bowl) while in 10 seasons before being fired Hurney had 3 postseasons (2 as NFC South champs, 1 as a wildcard, and 1 Super Bowl trip).

If people don't want to like Gettleman, that's fine.

But can we at least be able to do 2 + 2 = 4 - 1 = 3 (quick maths) and not act like the man had as much success as Hurney in half the time while working his way out of the cap hell that Hurney put the team into to begin with?

Great post, I will say tho it was Hurney that drafted those anchor players though...  DG just did and does a really good job of finding mid tier players to fill the gaps, that was where he really shined.  Hurney was awesome at drafting players in the first round, there are a lot of teams that would take half of his success with a smile on their face.

Think of Hurney as the Home run hitter, where he might now always get the hit, but when he did, it was over the fence.

and DG is the grisly vet who does have the power for home runs, but produces a lot through RBI.

If only he could draft in the 2nd round :(

But then again, we wouldn't have had Cam.

Though I do wonder... if we win the Super Bowl this season, will people credit that to Hurney or Gettleman?

His second round draft picks were epically bad, but with that said he really did well with 3rd and 4th round talents too, many of those were hits.

Hurney was just terrible at Contracts and FA acquisitions(things that DG was great at).  I would say he was a top 10, dare I say top 5 draft GM in the NFL.

DG, he built the team.

I hate to say it but unless we get really lucky, I dont think we make the Super Bowl this year, Playing from a wildcard spot puts your team at such a disadvantage.

Best case scenario for the Panthers, is round 1 LA, round 2 Eagles, Round 3, Vikings.

LA is inexperienced, Eagles are a paper tiger now due to injuries, and the Panthers are better equipped for bad winter weather then the Vikings. that is the best case scenario for us, and I honestly really do not want to face the Saints again if we can help it, already seen that show twice and the Super Dome in the Playoffs will be beyond loud.

I don't know about top 5. I think the Otah, Brown and Edwards trades alone keep him from that.
