Dave pretty much laid out why he was fired.  He told players what there value was.....they didn't like it.....they got there feelings hurt.

Dave did that with the core leaders as they aged.     Richardson finally had enough.

This^^^.

Gettleman is simply guilty of attempting to do in Carolina what most successful franchises have done for decades... part ways with veterans before they become a liability to the team, physically and/or financially.

Fans who support JR/Hurney's largely unsuccessful "Mom and Pop" way of running this franchise, who prioritize their emotional investment with individual players over the success of the team itself, will never understand this.

I got trashed for saying 89 shouldn't retire a Panther.  Then I got labeled a hater.  Bottom line is, unless a player retires early (like a Gross).....there are VERY VERY few examples of players you should want to play every snap on your team.

I do think what sealed Gettlemen's fate is that he also was a damn yankee and his bedside manner was horrible.  I am pretty sure he could of parted with 89 better than he did.  I do think the HOW you go about things impacts a lot.  I think Dave's mindset was right....I think he he deals with people leaves a lot to be desired.

and yeah, the how you go about business impacts many things.

“Really and truly, players don’t want to hear the value you put on them because it hurts their feelings, OK? They’re sad.”

“This is a big-boy league. You’ve got to put your big-boy pants on now. Nobody feels sorry for you. Nobody cares about your injuries. Nobody cares about what you make, what you don’t make. So I’ve learned you have to be consistent. You’ve got to be fair. And if the player is upset, so be it.”

Which is pretty much how the most successful teams in the league operate.

Do you ever see the Steelers or the Patriots apologizing for hurting someone's feelings?

well, I think you can find examples of most teams letting emotions get in the way at times for certain players.

some teams are better about that.  NE has been very good about parting with guys and not being the team paying for the down years.
