Dave Gettleman Hired By The NY Giants As Their New GM

I need to come clean

im having a real hard time not rooting for the giants and following them next year. I love Gettleman and watching him go back to his home team but i think its a true tragedy JR had to stick around and dismantle what we had. Its a shame. The frantics on here bashing him doesnt change the fact ofhow good he was

now i get to see him with a fresh start and HIS OWN HC.

What?

Cam

Kalil

Olsen

Trai

Luke

Short

TD

Addison

All got contract extensions under Gettleman.

Who did he release? Smitty, Norman, and Williams.

That's a 8-3 ratio there bub. The Narrative that Gettleman let guys walk is such BS it's ridiculous. He let's divas walk, and I'm kind of OK with that.

He pays what guys are worth (Unless you are Matt Kalil then you get bonus money for occupying the same womb as your much better brother).

Exactly.  I loved Smitty, Norman and Williams as much as the next guy, but I absolutely agreed with the decision.

Further, I think as soon as he re-signed / extended Cam, Luke, Addison, etc. ,they stopped being "Hurney's guys" and started being "Gettleman's guys".  Doesn't matter who drafted them, Gman recognized their worth and paid them accordingly.

He'll poo the bed in NY too. I give him three years tops before he's out on his ass again. He proved he was not GM material in Carolina.

Three straight division titles, best record in team history and a Super Bowl trip...

Yeah, what a failure.

Addison being a Hurney pickup seems to be a common misconception.

Brandon Beane signed Addison after Hurney was fired (Gano too).

he gets big credit on Addison from me, that guy is a player

i will never get past losing josh and cutting smitty

nothing wrong with parting w/ 89.  Should of been handled different.

the Norman thing was a straight up fug up.   Ego dictated that one.

So basically you’re inventing fantasy points in your own mind to support your already existing bias because Gettleman cut your favorite player(s).

Because you don’t have any idea if what you said above is true, Madden GM, nor do you have any way to verify it.  And, no, neither Mel Kiper’s ESPN Insider NFL Draft Top 100 nor The Sporting New NFL Draft Guide you bought off of the Publix magazine shelf count.

no, you are inventing that...Don't play Madden, Kiper is an idiot, and I only buy Chicken wings and orange mango passion fruit sherbet from publix...

That's your right as a fan I spose, but it was for the betterment of the team.

I was the BIGGEST Smitty fan growing up. But it's become evident over the years since he's been gone, that he was not the most pleasant person to be around and not the greatest teammate. Getting rid of him allowed Cam to step up as a leader of the team, and then we went to the super bowl. It worked out for us.

And, I've said it before in other threads, Norman was a luxury in Rivera's defensive scheme. We win on defense by smashing the other guys in the mouth with our linemen, not by finessing people in the secondary. Throwing the kind of money he wanted is a waste of funds in Rivera's scheme, and it is honestly an overpayment for the skins as well, who now have to try and re-sign Cousins. By letting him walk, we extended Short, brought back peppers and Capt, extended Addison, and brought in Mike Adams.

We'd be in a much crappier place financially if we were paying Norman right now.

Yea that's it and is what happens when Panther fans only watch the Panthers. That type of mentality along with the "the announcers hate us" thing.(which wouldn't exist if they actually tuned into the NFL)

Turners deal was already done when Hurney signed on.  Olsen hasn't signed an extension, and the TD signing was dumb.

Addison was a great signing by DG, and he got Cam signed for less that market.  DG was great at extending guys.

Dave pretty much laid out why he was fired.  He told players what there value was.....they didn't like it.....they got there feelings hurt.

Dave did that with the core leaders as they aged.     Richardson finally had enough.

even though i didn't like him, as long as the giants are in crisis mode he is fine...he just doesn't handle wealth  very well...he is a hired gun that becomes less valuable when the trouble dies down...

this just goes to show that the best blocker G-man ever brought in for Cam was himself...poor thing couldn't be a leader because Smitty wouldn't let him...
