Dave Gettleman Hired By The NY Giants As Their New GM

the argument was that DG got swept up by the Giants immediately after being fired, but Hurney was unemployed for 4 years.

if it wasn't the Giants signing him, do you think DG lands a spot immediately with another team?

The biggest difference  is that Hurney was fired because the team was failing under his watch; Gettleman's firing was not (wholly) related to performance as GM. This is the difference.

As to your question it's impossible to say as we don't know what other offers Hurney or Gettleman's had on the table. We do know that Gettleman's a New Yorker at heart and the Giants organization already knew him and saw him perform in Carolina and, very importantly, had an opening. Immediately or not I do think Gettleman gets another job quickly if he wants one.

Who from the front office here did Gettleman replace?

Heck, most of the people that are in place there now are people that he was working with before. If he didn't fire anybody here, why would he fire them?

And let's be real, the Giants have a way more proven, organized and tenured personnel system than we do. Up till this year, our Pro Personnel chief was a guy who worked his way up from the ticket office.

(the kind of promotions only Jerry Richardson would do)

Honestly we had one scout leave to head up the Titans office and another one took retirement.  We lost our number 2 GM in waiting.

We had multiple players retire out of the blue. We had Steve Smith cut.  Josh Norman cut or let go or  not brought back.

On and on and on

we would still get Bradberry...i'll take both...the cap hit is wrong...

If Norman signs the tag and we're on the hook for 15m, we may not draft Bradberry.  Instead we may draft another DT or OG since the chances of extending KK or Trai would be greatly diminished.  But that is all conjecture at this point.

I'm just stunned people are still pining for Norman.  We've got two guys that are younger, cheaper, and are more advanced in their second season than Norman was in his.  How anyone believes the money it would take to keep Norman would not be better spent elsewhere is beyond me.

The 2017 cap hit for Norman on the Redskins is 20m according to "overthecap.com".  The 2018 hit is 17m.  If you are suggesting the cap hit would be lower because of some hometown discount, I disagree.  If Norman wanted to be a Panther he would have signed the tag.  Money was more important so he is now a Redskin.

It’s hard to compare corners based on those stats.  What about catch %?  PBU’s?

Tackles usually indicate the corner allowed the receiver to make a catch. Less tackles is not always a bad thing.

I agree about the stats.  The stats don't really show it, but Norman may be a little better at this point.

What I hope was eye-opening was the difference in age and salary.  Would you really rather pay a guy that might be marginally better and extra 19 mil?  What current Panthers players are you giving up to make that happen?

So two guys took promotions...Yeah, that never happens anywhere else.

Multiple players retired? Please name all the retirees not named Jordan Gross.

Dave did draft a defensive tackle with the first round pick after he let Norman walk. Do you think he would have drafted yet another in the second round if Norman was retained?
