Dave Gettleman Hired By The NY Giants As Their New GM

They actually lost 6 games by 1 score or less last year, not 8. In 4 of those games they gave up 21 points or less. In two of those games (Denver and TB), Graham Gano missed a GW field goal and 3 field goals respectively. The game against KC they were winning all game and Marcus Peters ripped the ball right out of Benjamin's hands for a pick 6. The first TB game, Cam was hurt and Derek Anderson threw a pick at the 1-yard line that would have won the game. I can honestly say not having Josh Norman had no effect at all on those 4 games.

the other two games were against NO and Oak. I still don't think Josh Norman wins those two games, but hey I'll let you have those two because I am a nice guy. So with Josh Norman the Panthers go 8-8, miss the playoffs, and don't get Christian Mcaffrey.

damn good memory.

but in all honesty, we can sit here and go back and forth with hypotheticals all we want. It's not fair for me to say he would have definitely made the difference in us making the playoffs, and for you to say the opposite. Truth is we'll never know. I do know however that one players presence on a team can be huge for a teams psyche, not only on the field, but in the locker room as well, both in his overall energy, swag, intimidation, and will to win, all of which Norman possessed.

Whoever Norman was matching up with that week, he got into their heads, created headlines throughout the week leading up to game day, and just added excitement and intrigue to our matchups.

Remember when OBJ scored on Norman to tie the game, stepped over Norman taunting the hell out of him, and then stood with his hands up energizing the entire Giants stadium? Do you think OBJ reacts the same way if him and Josh weren't going at it all week? You remember that look on Cam's face? Do you think he gives that same look if OBJ didn't act like a complete ass after that TD and doesn't proceed to lead us to a comeback victory?

That's the poo I'm talking about. Norman was a huge piece to our team in that respect and it resonated with the rest of the team as well. That swag is something we've been missing ever since he left.

Josh disaster

KB....lousy pick

Smitty...still not over that

big Vern...finally on the field some

Shaq...underachiever

sammuel and Elder....not on field

wanted to cut TD and Olson

he was good on some things....Mac a HR...short and star

we will see how he does with no Cam and no coach

I mean KB was not a lousy pick. Has two 1,000 yard seasons with a QB who threw for under 3,600 yards. Also another team valued him enough to give up a 3rd round pick.

Josh was not a disaster. It was handled poorly, but at end of the day was the right move. Bradberry looks like he's on his way to becoming an excellent player and his money went to a better player in Short.

No one cares if you are over a move or not. That should not be taken into account when judging a GM. Just because you choose to idolize a grown man who doesn't know you exist like Steve Smith doesn't mean it should be held against Gettleman. Newsflash, they went to a super bowl without him.

i don't even know how to respond to your Vernon butler comment. It literally means nothing.

Shaq has not been an underachiever and had been a key cog to the defense.

welcome to football, injuries do happen. I am not ready to write off Samuel or elder yet.

you just completely made up the Olsen and TD thing. Never wanted to cut them. He didn't want to extend them this offseason, which was the smart move. Exspecially with Olsen who has 2 years left on his deal. Plus Hurney didn't even extend him.

Gettleman was in the middle of establishing a culture of football players that wanted to be here, and didn't cause a bunch of poo in the locker room. Sometimes you just gotta peel scabs and bleed for a little while. Letting players like Smitty, Norman throw their weight around sets a bad example that other players will follow. If you don't want to be here, then get the fug out. If you think you're bigger than the Panthers, then gtfo. If Norman had wanted to be here, he would have signed the goddamn tender.  If Smitty had wanted to stay here he would have reached out to Gettleman and worked something out. No Smitty took the guaranteed money and ran off to Baltimore to talk poo about the franchise, and Norman is a headcase. While no one will ever forget what Steve Smith #89 did for us in Carolina, nobody will remember Josh fuging Norman in 5 years.

You'll get no argument out of me about JR's nauseating 1950's approach to life and football, but I'm not going to totally absolve Gettleman of blame for some mind numbing crucial missteps that are still hurting the team.

Could you be more specific?  What did he do that is still hurting the team?

Please don't say cutting Smith or Norman, we have totally recovered from those.

And who would you have drafted at 8 last year that would have improved this team more than CMC?

I’ve gotten where I like Worley better than Bradbury

I dont like the fact he traded up for him out of panic mode...could have gotten him in our regular spot ...that happened a lot with the g-man  but the sheep just marveled at his genius in those wasted moves.

If DG was any good we might have made the playoffs 4 out of the last 5 years.

Which is infinitely better than any GM we've ever had.

no we haven't totally recovered , we are just different. Still need another starting CB.

we got rid of him before the the down turn... his only worth was managing the cap ...last season was his mistakes catching up with us...he was on track to repeat those mistakes...glad he's gone...your math seems a little fuzzy...

Can't make a full judgement on CMC after only one rookie season. But even the biggest homer can't just be satisfied with their franchise QB shouldering the run game after drafting an offensive weapon 8th overall. Do I actually have to explain this?

As far as this season. Which is what I have been referring to. Signing Matt Kalil to that contract when other options were available is just ugly. On top of that cutting Ginn would have been a lesser loss if he hadn't tried to replace him with a couple of jags that would be lucky to make a CFL roster. We are limited on offense this season and Gettleman unequivocally shares blame for that.

Don’t the giants play in NJ...now that you have your GM in place you go go full in

Just when I thought you were an idiot with that awful initial post, you go and redeem yourself by knowing the Giants play in NJ.

Like I said in the past, I have suffered 23 long years with this god awful owner in Jerry Richardson. He is finally gone, why would I ever leave now?

Not only is he gone, but I always thought the only way he would ever be gone is if he died. If that were the case, then I never would have been able to celebrate the change in ownership. I am going to take these days and cherish them. I am going to dance all over his figurative grave until he officially sells. And I will pray every single day that the employees he sexually harassed are blessed with the same karma Mr. Gettleman received today.
