Dave Gettleman Hired By The NY Giants As Their New GM

given the fact we lost like 8 games by 1 score or less, and the fact our secondary was absolute trash last year, yes, Norman could have easily made the difference in a few games last year, not just on the field, but playing opposite of Bradberry while also mentoring him and Worley in the process.

instead our GM decided to throw 3 rookie corners to the wolves and watched them get eaten alive every Sunday. great strategy to get back to the dance following a 15-1 superbowl year.

They actually lost 6 games by 1 score or less last year, not 8. In 4 of those games they gave up 21 points or less. In two of those games (Denver and TB), Graham Gano missed a GW field goal and 3 field goals respectively. The game against KC they were winning all game and Marcus Peters ripped the ball right out of Benjamin's hands for a pick 6. The first TB game, Cam was hurt and Derek Anderson threw a pick at the 1-yard line that would have won the game. I can honestly say not having Josh Norman had no effect at all on those 4 games.

the other two games were against NO and Oak. I still don't think Josh Norman wins those two games, but hey I'll let you have those two because I am a nice guy. So with Josh Norman the Panthers go 8-8, miss the playoffs, and don't get Christian Mcaffrey.

this is the real issue after playing hard ball with Norman and losing him  then G-man panicked in the draft ...he lost his cool and that wasn't cool...unless someone wants to suggest that draft was his plan all along.

exactly. if Norman was still on the team, would our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th round picks been Bradberry, Worley, and Sanchez?

I mean he did say he was drafting BPA, didn't he?

Stop right here

When Gettleman has half the track record of Belichick (even if we go by Belichick's track record at the time Thomas was signed), you can maybe begin to use him as a comparison.

no i’ll use him now and you can sit there and carry on providing nothing of substance here

When Gettleman was swinging his dick around cutting fan favorites nobody said a damn thing about JR forcing his hand. Now all the sudden poor ol' Gettleman just had no choice but to fall on his sword to JR's every demand. What a crock of poo.

I could see JR shortening Getts leash after every pet player he cut.

The rationalizing and nitpicking in here is just precious. Please name a GM who's never made a mistake. Go ahead. I'll wait.

Now, name a GM who took over a team $15 million over the cap that was 4 years removed from their last winning season and immediatly turned them into a contender that made the playoffs 4 out of the next 5 years, including at least 3 division championships. Again, go ahead, I'll wait.

Bottom line is the Panther's loss is the Giant's gain. Worst mistake this franchise has ever made.

They're 2-14 and they don't have anything close to the building blocks like he got with Cam and Luke before he even got here.

They will be hiring a new GM in 5 years.

you say 2-14 like it's a bad thing for an incoming GM. he gets his pick of the litter. at 2-14 you can draft your own Luke or Cam. plus NY has 30 mil projected cap space.

It's the Red he only has an all or nothing mental capability.

He couldn't muster the synaptic power to figure that JR would/could jump in sometimes but not others....and as you've said even more so after certain moves were made. Easier to see/deduce which is which when you look at the rumblings between Olsen/TD and compare it to the other moves he made in previous seasons and then poof he was fired.

Gettleman made mistakes, but so does every single GM and coach in this league.  His positives far outweighed his negatives so those that continue to rail on him either expect perfection--or near it--and/or simply don't like the guy.  Amazing to be reading multiple cries about the Butler mistake while Marty Hurney is the current GM.

As for last season, it's ridiculous to pin 6-10 completely on the secondary.  Offense was trash, Gano misses some FGs and you have DA making starts.  That 6-10 is shared by the entire team and is not because Norman wasn't here.  DG bungled that situation as you should get something for him at the very least, but they aren't 10-6 with him.

Anyways, no surprise he has another GM job.  Anybody that has taken a team out of cap hell while simultaneously fielding a competitive team is going to be attractive to any owner that is still in full controls of his faculties.

his negatives showed a pattern that was going to happen over and over and would outweigh the positives...

You'll get no argument out of me about JR's nauseating 1950's approach to life and football, but I'm not going to totally absolve Gettleman of blame for some mind numbing crucial missteps that are still hurting the team.

I think Bradberry would have been picked.. but not the others or at least we wouldn't have traded up...I say if we traded up we could have gotten a different player in the second and still gotten Bradberry early in the 3rd...
