@SmokinwithWilly i think you bring up a good point...most of the time all that is needed is to have the gun point at the bad guy and it's enough. just the idea of getting shot at is enough to turn them away.

I got a bullet proof vest, 200 bullets for AR and 50 shotgun shells including some slugs and call of duty ski mask that will make you poo ur pants.  If someone busts through my door, would be a huge mistake... All my guns have extremely bright blinding flashing light.  I need a handgun not as much for home defense but for target shooting and maybe, just maybe Home defense.

I put 600 lumen strobe light on mine. Can be strobe or beam, it just depends on which button I hit. My choice for handguns was between a Glock and the Beretta. For me, the grip was the deciding factor, and I didn't care so much about the weight. It's hard to argue with either brand, and I have no problem with Sig either. One thing I can tell you, stay away from Blazer ammunition. That stuff is dirty as hell.

What’s the main difference between 9m and .45 except for obvious reasons?

.45 bigger round. 9mm less expensive and more capacity, almost certainly suitable for what you're looking for. But really just preference as there are smaller pros and cons of both.

If you are trying to get your wife interested in guns and shooting, look at the Ruger Mark IV .22 Cal. Fun gun to shoot and teach with, and they do have a tactical version. Once she is comfortable with that, then move up to the .380 or 9mm. I have a Glock 42 subcompact .380 that even my son can shoot.

The reason I prefer 9mm is that it is more universal, cheap, and readily available should something ever happen that stops or slows ammo production.

If you're considering this for your wife, a 9mm also has less recoil and percussive effect.

My home defense is a S&W .357 magnum revolver...point and click.

My wife's is a Taurus Judge with .410 buckshot...again, point and click.

For a home defense shotgun, I think I would just buy a cheap mossberg pump...no need for the tactical stuff IMO.

I think rayzor nailed it.  Becoming fairly proficient with a hand gun takes quite a bit of practice.  I would stick with a lighter frame and round starting out, and one which is less expensive to shoot so you can practice a lot - a .22 or a 9mm just because the 9mm rounds seem relatively inexpensive compared to others. I'd rather face off against bad shot with a 9mm in his hand than an expert with a .22

I've got a Walther PPQ 9 mm, a Sig P320 9mm, a Sig P220 .45 and a Glock.40. I actually bought an aftermarket barrel for the Glock that converts it into a 9mm.  The Glock sits a little different in your hand, they are a little more upright in your hand, but I'm probably most accurate with it as a 9 (.40 is a little snappy, more recoil).
