Cuban: 'The NFL Is In Decline"

Football has always been America's sport. Rodger Goodell was dragging it down by expanding it to other nights and making international games. That man and most of the owners are so out of touch with there base they thought they could manipulate and force liberal agendas on a blue collar class that just voted in a wildcard president. The biggest astonishment is they have doubled down and have adopted a even more far left agenda. We are definitely in crazy times.

I don’t want to turn this into the tinderbox, but I’m pretty sure most of not all the owners voted for that president and have values inline with his.

I'm sure most of the owners just like America were split. Still doesn't make them any less responsible for the decline of football and making it a political circus.

You really think the nba is some ratings monster lol, they can barely beat out regular tv programs. The nfl is the number 1 program in 5 networks

Umm, that link says it averaged 276,000 viewers and topped out at 406,000.  The first round of the playoffs alone averaged 3.1 million.

It has nothing to do with where your political loyalties lie.  Paul Tagliabue kept the league out of politics as best he could, while Goodell seems to embrace causes seen by various fans as both good and bad.  You can't let your company get political without running the risk of alienating half your base.

Do you guys realize that the AP named Kaepernick's protest the top sports story of the year?  The Patriots came back from 28-3 to win the Super Bowl, but that got overshadowed by a guy who didn't even play.  Regardless of your political leaning, you can discuss that comeback with anyone without fear of being called names, etc.  But a guy who Tagliabue would have shut down immediately dominated the headlines because Goodell almost seemed to embrace the controversy instead of avoid it.

I really don't want this to be a tinderbox post either.  The point here is not one of whether this idea or that has merit.  Sports should bring people of different stripes together, and under Goodell's leadership the NFL has been allowed to become a tool to divide them instead.  Had TV revenues not exploded prior to all this, he would probably be out on the street.  Instead, we're stuck with his "leadership" and CTE/Bad Officiating/Watered-down Schedule/etc. mess for the next five years.

I mean it is biggest sports story, not biggest game.  I am not certain the kneeling would be my top choice, but it is certainly higher than that.  I am not certain the SB, or any game for that matter would even be in my top ten.

You can see the divide between owners like Jerry Jones furious that he didn't get a say in Goodell returning. The fact is only about 5 owners decided and didn't consult the rest. I totally expect things to get worse before they get better because of how things have been handled.

Well so is the NBA, lol especially his team. The only sport on the rise right now is baseball.

Well, nerd alert and all, but I think you're overlooking eSports. The Overwatch League is launching next month. ESPN already has a dedicated eSports page on their site.

More 5-19 year olds play soccer than any other activity now, including Boy/Girl Scouts.

I don't have any statistics, but as far as 'activity', I feel confident 5-19 year olds spend way more time playing video games like Overwatch than soccer.

I think he meant organized activity.  A lot of kids swim too but most are not on a swim team.
