Ok, so who do you want to face if we are on the road round 1

Tough one

Rams: better team, havnt seen them this year, But less home field crowd factor like the dome

Saints: not as good as the Rams, seen them already twice this year, But playing in the dome in the playoffs wont be as fun.

Just curious why you think the Rams are the better team? (serious question)

When I look at the Saints I see a team that 1) easily handled the Panthers twice 2) lost two early games while they were sorting out their defense and how to use Kamara (with Peterson still in the rotation). Oh and those two early losses were to the Pats and AT Minny, 3) lost AT the Rams - which is also a good team and not a bad loss on the road, 4) whose 4th loss was AT ATL after Kamara went out with an injury, and 5) who is 7-1 at home this season (Rams are 4-3 in LA).

If I'm ranking the playoff teams in the NFC they get my #1 ranking, personally.

Easily the Rams. While Gurley scares the poo of me, I think we can devise a game plan to limit him and force Goff to hold the ball so our pressure gets to him. I could see it going a lot like our playoff game against the 49ers a few years ago, where we had the momentum early but were worn down by a more experienced team. I'd rather we avoid the Saints entirely, clearly that matchup doesn't favor us.

Just overall and they have beat the saints already.

Also as you pointed out the saints losses.

Rams losses included a shootout loss in the game Wentz went down, L  At Minn, L vs Redskins early,  and L vs the Seahawks early before the legion of boom started getting injured

Saints run game and OL is improved but the Rams have this guy name Gurley who is having a MVP year and a OL thats improved as much as the Saints this year if not more.  They dont have Bree's but Goff is playing well, they have Fast WRs who can get downfield in Watkins, Austin, Kupp, and Woods.

On defense the saints are much improved.  The CB Lattimore should be DROY, meanwhile the Rams have Probowl Calibre CB in Trumaine Johnson.  The front 7's, the Saints just lost Klein.  And while Jordan has eaten us up this year, Quinn is still a Freak and nightmare on the edge.   Also remember how Cox looked against us and he was injured.  Rams have this guy even better than him in Donald. while Rankins is good inside for the Saints, the Saints interior DL is Weak compared to the Rams with Donald and Brockers.

Fair. Both really good teams for sure.

anyway my thoughts....

i see both sides of this coin. At the risk of being one of those "tough guy" fans, i fully believe that the Panthers are capable of beating any team in the NFL this season. We proved as much against the Vikings, Falcons, Pats, and even in our loss to the Eagles. I hear what people are saying about the Saints being a horrible matchup for us and i agree, however some poster in this thread (i forget who) said "lol @ those who are sleeping on the Rams" and i agree with him. Neither matchup is going to be easy because both teams are similar in offensive philosophy. Both have stud running backs that set up a quick strike passing game that thrives against zone defenses (like ours). Neither team is a favorable matchup but unless we get the #2 seed by some miracle, we will be playing one or the other. I would love to punch the Saints in the mouth and pay them back for the two earlier losses, but i'd be lying if i said they didnt scare me. but as ive been saying, the Rams scare me too because they are a slightly younger, West Coast version of the Saints.

What encourages me about this situation is that the Panthers will either have to immediately buck a monkey off their back upon entering the playoffs, or play a similar team that will prepare them for bucking said monkey. The Lombardi wont be any more shiny either way. and either wild card matchup is going to be tough. But as fans, that means that if we survive the WC round, we ought to be wholly confident in our team's ability to beat any team in the playoff field.

Long story short, even we fans need to sit back and worry about Atlanta and let the chips fall where they may. Enjoy the ride. Believe in your team. and regardless of which team we draw in the wild card round, Keep Pounding.

With the injury to Wentz, this is a strange scenario where it's almost better to have a lower seed and face the Eagles in round 2.

We very well could see a scenario where we are playing in Minnesota in the NFC Championship game. Just a little dress rehearsal before the big one in the same stadium a couple weeks later.

Philly scares me the least among the division leaders, without Wentz.  Cox and Wentz are the reason they beat us last time.  1 is out, the other had one of his best games and will be hard to do it again

1. Rams- top team imo

2. Saints- beat us twice aleady

3. Minn- beat them, but they were a few wide open drops by Thielen from losing much like Atlanta game with Julio

Honestly either. Yall act like the Saints kicked our ass in the second game. Go rewatch it. We shot ourshelves in the foot all game long and somehow were still in the game

this fact cannot be overstated. The Panthers got flat out beat by the Saints the first time in Charlotte. no way around that. the second time, the Panthers got flat out beat by the Panthers (mainly Rivera and Shula if i remember correctly), and the Saints just benefited from our ineptitude at preparing and gameplanning.

of all the various scenarios we may face in the playoffs this year, this is the one i least want to face. we snuck by the Vikings in our house. They are gonna be motivated by revenge and the prospect of having the first ever home Super Bowl. We match up well against them, but if we can avoid playing Minnesota in the NFCCG at their place, id like that.

i still say bring them on. but thats the one situation i would want us to avoid if we can. either that or the Falcons sneaking in via a Seahawks loss if we sweep them. If we sweep the Falcons and they stumble into the playoffs still, i would not want to face them. Then again, as i say that... im thinking of the difficulty of that first matchup against the Rams/Saints and it strikes me how difficult this year's playoffs are going to be...

... and how sweet its going to be if we can earn another Super Bowl berth in this year's playoffs.
