2018 Needs and the draft

My take:

1. LT

2. DE

3. WR

4. S

5. CB

6. LB

7. TE

I think we can get some good stop gap options in the free agent market if we are smart. Would like to see us trade up with our extra 3rd round pick to get a true impact player at WR or LT, if possible. I think we can shore up some of the other positions with short term signings until the 2019 draft. WR and LT are immediate needs. Don't sleep on LB either. If TD decides to hang it up, we are going to need someone there, as well.

I'd say our top needs are safety and defensive end. We should probably address at least one of them in free agency so we're not left in position where we need to reach in the first couple rounds. Beyond that, obviously wide receiver but we can't discount a healthy Samuel and Byrd coming back next year, both looked like legitimate starters before getting injured. We also need to consider drafting the heir apparent to Greg Olsen, he's only got a couple productive years left at best. I don't think OT is as big a need as some people are making it out to be, I wouldn't draft one early unless an absolute stud falls to us. We need more quality depth behind Worley and Bradberry as well.

I have to ask, what is your fascination with the TE position?

I love Fumagalli as well but Ive lost hope in Shula really taking advantage of a 2 TE set.

Most of the time in those sets, the TE2 is more of a H-back taking on a blocking role (thus the reason I really wanted Kittle last year)

Think a Jaylen Samuel would be more beneficial.  I know we just got Armah, but Samuel is like Tolbert was before he went downhill.  Pass catcher, ok blocker, big back who can run up the middle

Samuels would be a great option for us given the offensive use of non-WR's as receivers. Likely we can pick him up in the 3rd as well. However, given other needs, that would seem like a luxury pick, IMO.

Another need may be a QB in the later rounds. Derek Anderson doesn't have many years left and it would be wise to have a younger gun to come in and groom behind Cam and Derek for emergency purposes. That is, unless they see something in Gilbert we don't know about

It's pretty rare that a late round QB has much value, IMO. We are probably better served grabbing a FA QB if we are really looking for a replacement #2 QB.

He'll fall.  Hes a option in the 5th

Hard to say prior to the postseason games(Senior Bowl) and combine. He's a difficult one to peg specifically because different teams will view him in different roles. He could climb very high in the draft(2nd round) or he could be a 4th or 5th round guy. I think he is going to have a large variance on most draft boards.

What we need: Take care of the NFCS ...first and foremost ...

Whatever it takes to combat the Saints ...not taking round into account...be that another faster, run stopping LB... or a fast hard hitting SS...

We also need a DE that can bull & speed rush ... an upgrade at corner... a vet WR..

Let Norwell walk and put Moton in his spot, if need be... OT has to be a concern(LT) AGAIN.. although Kalil is ok, I don't think he is the long term answer.... as well as a RB .... a physical RB who doesn't fall on first contact...

Hurney is at the helm...lol... we shall see... One thing is for sure, Ingram & Alvin are a problem. We have to find the answer this offseason.
