Fantastic. Fuggin fantastic.

His injury must be serious if were already placing him on IR. Guess there’s no shot of him being ready if we make a deep run.

All I know is Clay ain’t it. There was a ball thrown yesterday on the final drive that went right through his hands. I wouldn’t trust him at all, but I guess Cam has no choice.

Stop panicking. We're gonna be fine.

To be clear I'm speaking to this season in particular. I know Byrd was green around the gills so to speak early on when we first signed him. That's not even open for debate.

I also liked Gettleman, and I thought he did many good things here. But he also tried too hard to find gems via FA. You can't always turn rags into riches. He watched Ted Ginn walk out the door twice to the detriment of our offense while he tried to insert random jags into crucial roles. The second time proving to be quite frankly a near catastrophic decision. He got too cute and was too smart for his own good, and that was ultimately his undoing as a GM. We need better than both him and Hurney.

Agreed 100% on needing better than both.

My fingers, toes, eyes, and ears are crossed that we can get an owner that is going to hire competent football folks and get the Hell out of their way.

Gettleman definitely made mistakes (penny pinching even after he got the cap in order and not leveraging it to bring in quality starters but take chances on the likes of Matt Kalil), but I found it unfair to put the lack of Damiere Byrd on him.

Call me crazy, but even though I'm still salty about the KB trade I'm excited to see what next year's WR corps can do... after we win the Super Bowl this season ofc :3

For the top 4 round guys, that is a quite a few swings and misses. Honestly, it isn't a thing that you can necessarily blame on any one GM. Have you seen our top 5 or 10 franchise leaders in reception yards? Only the top 5 have more than 2500 career receiving yards for us, two are TE's. Funchess is actually our #11 all-time guy in receiving yards, so I think that says a lot. Historically, I am not sure there is a weaker position in franchise history than WR for us.

You forgot Dwayne Jarrett...he was special

Woof. Injuries and trades certainly played a part in this unit but that right there is why every playoff game will be an uphill battle. Teams will sell-out to stop the run, put their best corner on Funchess, and one of three WR’s who wouldn’t be on many other rosters in the NFL are going to have to play out their minds and step up. Need to address this position in free agency in a big way this off-season. That is ugly.

pretty much exactly my thoughts.  Clay and Shepard are about to get serious minutes and they cant catch a fuging cold

I'm as disappointed as the next guy about Byrd's injury, because I firmly believe it will limit how far this team can advance in the playoffs (barring a defensive clinic over four straight games).

That being said, I don't think freak injuries to Samuel and Byrd should change the narrative on the KB trade.  It was the right decision as the offense immediately "unclogged" and subsequent injuries to literally every other WR on the roster couldn't have been predicted at that time.  The stats bear out the improvement post-trade.

On the plus side, it seems like the FO and coaches finally realize that I) speed and athleticism matter at WR and II) Cam works best with wideouts that create separation.

I think Byrd and Samuel showed enough this season to feel good about them heading into the offseason.  Funchess has exceeded expectations and could develop into a #1 (but is, at least, a strong #2).

Going into next season, we can probably count on Funchess, Samuel, Byrd, and Bersin (as Funchess's backup).  We need to add 1-2 more quality WRs that have speed and can create separation.

With four picks in the top 3 rounds, my guess is we add one WR early in the draft and sign one veteran (unless one of Clay or Shepard prove themselves in the playoffs).  That extra pick from the KB trade is going to be valuable.

The Panthers are unlikely to ever have a top 10 WR group in the NFL under Rivera and Shula and that's fine.  We have big needs in other areas that must be addressed this off season (O line, D line, Safety, Corner).  Unfortunately, injuries have demolished this one position group and, as currently constructed, it's a positional disaster.  Depth must be improved this off season.

We’re fugged

Only way this works is if we give CAP carries to free CMC up to play WR. Ron likes Stew too much.

this was my exact thought. flex CMC out wide more often and get CAP on the field.

no doubt we will instead see charles johnson activated and doing nothing

Our only chance is to put CMC at slot WR and give CAP his RB carries. And bring Dickson in some two TE sets.

Our coaching staff is WAY too god damn stupid to do some smart poo like that.

Edit: oh and yea duh we'll definitely see CJ in to stuff our pass rush and Stew up the middle to stuff our drives. I can has HC.
