Stewart vs CAP

Once again CAP has been pretty much a no show for us.  No fault of his own.   Rivera seems to be highly loyal to Stewart.

Stewart is clearly on a decline.  Minus 1 or 2 big runs he doesn't seem to be the RB he once was.

CAP will enter is final season with us next season.  The question is do we move him to the #1 spot and keep Stewart as a backup or draft another Running Back and cut ties completely with Stewart all together?

Do we draft a RB and never fully see what CAP can bring to us.

I have always like Stewart but it seems to me he isn't hitting the hole fast enough or is it just lousy play calling.

If I were the one with the power , I'd cut Stew and Fozzy . Keep CAP , CMC, and always have Armah active to be a 1 yard and less option and emergency RB.

I wouldn't spend another draft pick on a RB. Next season its time to give both CAP and CMC high volume of carries to see what they can do . Start CMC given him 15-20carries per . If he starts the first game or 2 avg under 4 yards a clip I yank him and give the load to CAP. By the end of the season we will know with absolute certainty if we have viable RB or not.  If one or both suck ass, by all means draft anotther back in 2019.

This year I sure as hell don't want to spend another pick on a RB . If we have to , then no higher than a 3rd . We have extreme needs at DE , Saftey that really need to be addressed early in the draft imo.

I would get a real WR in free agency to go oppiste of Devin , and kick the tires on Moton to see if he's any better at ALL than M.Kalil sorry ass

I guess another path would be to cut Stew and fozzy, and if you don't have much faith currently in CMC or CAP, then draft a young powerback like Bo Scarborough in the middle rounds .

I don't think keeping Stew for very long solves any of our immediate problems unless he's used only as a goal line or 1-2 yard power  back like he should be, I don't believe the coaches would want to disrespect him and I don't trust the current staff to use him correctly as a short yardage situational back .

Stewys YPC has gone down every year the past 4 seasons , there's no way you can blame those stats just on oline over that long of a swath of time . He's getting old and doesn't get through holes /make cuts with the same burst anymore . It's really a blessing that his power and pass blocking is still on point . But that's not good enough to be our main back .

Agreed for the most part.   I think M. Kalil has improved and will probably keep us from drafting a OT in round 1 or 2 unless of course one of the Top Tier OTs fall to us in the 20s or 30s.  I saw a mock draft that has 4 or 5 OTs in the first round.

Unfortunately I just don't get enough college football information to pick a Safety or DE that I would like.

Remember when Deangelo looked like he sucked, went to the Steelers and ran better than Bell while it lasted?

the point is we have a terrible run scheme.

personally for what we do on the run game we’d be better off bringing in a Chris Ivory or similar.

Stewart is being wasted here. He’s a beast and on the right team he would flourish. Deangelo proved that when he left. He’s just not a team player, wouldn’t take backup money and be a backup.

for the Panthers I’m in agreement that we should part ways with him, keep CAP, CMC, and Fozzy or switch Fozzy out for a free agent.

Stewart has been declining over the past several seasons.  I was one that preferred we keep DeAngelo over Stewart,  He used to be pretty good on the read option but he just seems so slow getting through the hole.

If he went to a team that doesn't use the read option than you might be right.  I think we need someone that gets to the hole quicker. CAP seems to be good at it but the loyalty to Stewart isn't helping him.

Totally agree on cutting Stewart and Fozzy.

I know Armah is a FB but he seems pretty fast.  Why not a RB?  Remember the Nigerian Nightmare. Christian Okoye?

D-Lo’s success was more due to him losing 20 lbs after he got cut and realized he had to work for a living again. No more easy paychecks because he cost too much to cut. I couldn’t believe when I saw him that pre-season.

The problem with that is that Bo Scarborough isn't even a starter on his own *college* team.

The only reason that DW did anything in Pitt is that he finally decided to work hard and get in playing shape in Pitt.

Instead of being a fat Hurney-bloated fug collecting a paycheck in Charlotte.

Stewart definitely needs to go in the offseason. He's one of the higher paid RBs in the league - if not THE highest paid - and his production levels are horrendous. While I do recognize that our line is to blame for much of that, I also recognize that it's unlikely that line will improve dramatically in the offseason.

I have no problem drafting a mid-round back next year. Taken as a percentage of the whole, mid-round picks tend not to contribute immediately. The one exception seems to be RB. Every year it seems there are at least a couple of mid-round RBs that provide an instant jolt for the teams that draft them.

I'd also love it if we can cut M. Kahlil, but is that even economically feasible? How much of a cap hit do we take?

I am not a contract or Cap expert but I believe his contract was set up for us to cut ties with him after 2 seasons if he didn't pan out well and our hit would not be too bad.
