Thoughts on Jake Delhomme this season?

Or developing an offensive system which allows any quarterback to thrive. Look at the Broncos. They take Orton who has never had a passer rating above 80 and suddenly he is 8th in the league in yards and has a passer rating of 97. McDaniels has taken the New England system which makes anyone look good (just look at Cassel) and brought it to Denver. We keep talking about Jake's decline because he hasn't done the heroics he did in year's past without looking at the system he is in. Davidson's system is hardly quarterback friendly and Henning has never been known for developing quarterback play other than Pennington's one good year last year. It is not so much of an excuse as it is to say that no matter who we get, if we don't have a better offensive scheme, we might very well not get better results. Running is great until teams scheme to stop it.

Henne looked pretty good.

It is because of the Tommy Lee Jones surgery. If some pitchers never have the same zip on the ball, you know a football player, throwing a heavier ball, will have problems. If Jake keeps it up ,Tommy Lee will have to hunt Jake down lika a Fugitive just to get an autograph, cause we will no longer be on a team

One game hardly qualifies as anything to make judgements on. And most of that was in the fourth quarter when the defenses for both teams seemed to disappear. Henne has a long way to go before proving he is the one. Matt Moore looked good for a few games as well.

Jake goes as the running game goes. That's how this offense works people. Henne woudn't have done much either if the wildcat didn't set him up for success earlier in the game, plus Dan Henning has always been good at calling plays against Ryans defenses...he beat them with Jake Delhomme too even when we didn't have much of a running game.

You are right, but he is 2-0 and looked very qualified to be a starter for that team. Not saying he's gonna be the next Tom Brady, but the entire game, he looked comfortable, made the throws and made no mistakes, thats all we are asking from Jake right?

And Interesting that Jakes best years, the games that Moore looked the best, Pennington's great year, and Henne's good two games all came under Hennings eh?

I remember you constantly saying Moore was certainly our future... still believe that?

Not if he can't get any more real game experience, which he should be getting this year. His only hope is that the next regime gives him a shot. I still think Moore could be a solid starter in this league.

I am talking about the lack of zip on the ball and the more frequent throws off target, not lack of heroics.

Yes I agree, I believe he can be a starter in this league, but here they just won't give him the chance.

Henne against Buffalo threw for 115 yards and even this week threw for less than 250 so he is hardly looking great. He hasn't thrown a pick which is good but it suggests that he is not having to win games and take chances since they rely on the running game. He looks good because of the system not because of his talent. You may see them open things up as he gets more comfortable in the system.

How many times does Jake have time and look comfortable in the pocket if there is one? Taking nothing away from Henne because he made a few nice throws on the deep ball.

Henne threw for 115 yards against buffalo because midway through the 3rd quarter the game was already out of hand. He didn't throw for a whole quarter in a half cause he didn't need to. And who says the guy has no talent? Because he was a second round draft pick? He's got a good arm, he's reading the field good, he was poised, made the throws. If Jake played like Henne played Monday night, I guarantee you no one complains.
