Happy with the win, but our coaches were completely unprepared today

Yea ...Evans schooled him today...next up is Julio and then Thomas....he has got to play better or we are going nowhere

Yep. I’ve said it before, but they’re going to tack him with the PI’s. He doesn’t play the ball. I just fear it’s going to come at a crucial moment

Bill Belichick got lucky enough to find/draft Brady in the late rounds.  If he hadn't, he likely would have lasted about 3-4 years at New England, and most of us wouldn't know who he was.  BB has never won a playoff game without Brady.  Doesn't mean he isn't a good or great coach, but luck does play a part in it.

Bill Belichick has had several backup QBs step up when Brady has been unable to play over the last 17 years of consecutive winning seasons for the Patriots.

Those QBs have gone on to be traded/signed by other teams and have largely failed to produce.

Brady has played a large part in NE's success, so has Bill Belichick.

All this to ask, would Rivera's record be better or worse without Cam (3 winning seasons in 7 years)?

IMHO:  Ron Rivera has a long way to go before he can be considered one of the better coaches in the league.  He needs to demonstrate some consistency by having a string of winning seasons as HC.  He also needs to lead the Panthers to at least one Super Bowl victory.  Until Ron achieves both of these milestones, any discussion of him being one of the better coaches in the league is premature.

How many rings does Belicheck have???? And how many does Ron have?

Im aware of the discrepancy. Put us in the afc east in place of the pats for the duration belicheck was there and lets pretend we had cam the whole time. Lets film practices, have teams not run on goalline situations against us, and blow 25 pt leads in 1 qtr. Yeah id say we'd have a few rings too. Im playing devils advocate sure but when you basically get a bye to the superbowl every year youre gonna win a few.

I wish I could string a decade and a half of "luck" together like that, especially since that's probably all I have left, if that. Go ahead folks, spend your time looking for ways to hate on guys like them. Meanwhile, I'll use my time learning what I can from them, and, if nothing else, just keep a roof over my head. No doubt, luck is involved, and some, you just can't make, but counting on it to fall in your lap is sheer folly. When I needed a boost to get through a rough patch, as recently as this year, I rewatched some BB and/or TB clips and sound bites, etc., especially those from last year's SB. All I can say is, it helped...a lot.

My comment was slightly tongue in cheek, but regardless of great a coach you are, if you can't draft/sign the right combination of players in today's game, you end up getting canned.  Like BB did at Cleveland.

IMO, Joe Gibbs is perhaps the greatest coach of his era, because he won Superbowls with 3 different qb's, none of whom are considered Marquee.  But I don't think he could win today unless he got lucky in the draft.

Well yea you have to coach to the times(we're WAY behind here in Panther land). The game hasn't been static from era to era.

Seems our strategy is to stubbornly play 80s ball and wait for the meta to swing back to 80s style ball.(rule changes won't allow for that to happen)

Regarding the backups, the one year they had to go the whole season without Brady was the one time they didn't make it to the playoffs and BB was fired in Cleveland.

Fwiw, Rivera is already considered one of the better coaches in the league, most consider that he has done a lot with a limited group, at least on the offensive side.  No, he is not considered in BB's league and likely never will be.  But my only point in mentioning this was that being considered a great coach takes some luck these days.  And I stand by what I said, imo no Brady and BB would be an afterthought, maybe with Andy Reid level success.  Always decent to good, never at the top of the heap though.

Glad we pulled it out, that's what winners do.  But I think our coaches slept walk through this week.  I think we have a good coaching staff, 4 playoff appearances in 5 years should prove that. But they just weren't ready this week. There seemed to be no game plan on either side of the ball, I don't think it'll happen again but man that was frustrating.

I thought the same thing.  I said in another thread, don't take this game lightly.

We got lucky because there was some horrible coaching the last minute of the game and the Bucs offsides on 4th down bailed our coaches out.

There were some bad decisions on our side.  And some on their side.  I forget exactly when it happened, but Tampa running the ball twice with goal to go was playing right into our hands, and they eventually had to settle for a field goal.  And I think they had a field goal mindset on their next to last possession, when a more aggressive approach might have kept the ball longer for them.
