Per Ian Rappoport tweet.  I'm on mobile and can't figure how to embed tweet.

@RapSheet: During a tumultuous time, the #Panthers seek stability. Sources say they intend to extend coach Ron Rivera's contract and keep their football brain trust together. Story: http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000897051/article/panthers-search-for-stability-to-start-with-extending-ron-rivera

Said they want stability during this time.and are going to extend his contract.

Many in the building also want to extend Hurney but they have to follow Rooney rule first...............

I personally believe he’s one of the best coaches in the NFL and the best coach we’ve ever had. Excited for this news!

Yes. If he could improve on time management and having more killer instinct, he'd be great.  But he is still a good coach.

Rivera's extension is a no-brainer. He'd be near impossible to replace and for all the "sky is falling" folks, he's still a coach that wins games fairly consistently. His teams don't quit on him and he leads them to the playoffs regularly.

The other options for coach out there: errr, ummm, there's a reason they are out there and available.

On Marty Hurney: I think the Rooney Rule will require them to interview multiple candidates, particularly minority ones, before any kind of contract could be offered for an extension. And that is a good thing. I don't have a problem with Hurney staying and I think he's done a good job this season, but they really do need to kick the tires on some other possibilities out there -- there may be a hidden gem. The problem is that it may be training camp or the beginning of the season before the new ownership has everything firmed up enough to make a sound and logical decision on who to hire as GM.

Ugh, not happy about Rivera extension, but it could be worse.  The Hurney talk seems like just speculation. And wouldn’t signing Hurney be completely an owner decision? Is that acting president of operations or whatever her title is gonna do that with the sale impending?  Wouldn’t the team be more appealing to buyers if they have the option of hiring their own GM? And even if the extension does happen, we could at least hold onto hope the new owner could just immediately tear up that extension and hire someone capable.
