I am no expert. But I wouldn’t say the. Chances are zero... with the real”southern gentleman” being exposed, the league could want more of a minority presence to calm the storms of an ongoing fued with black players. This thing is ugly..with our own owner saying if u stand up for what you believe in you will be disciplined.

For all of Jerry is accused of diddy,is no worse of a human being than jerry. I could see a ownership group with diddy involved putting the money together to make a pitch for the team. With the price this is going to cost, who’s to say that ownership group won’t be the highest bidder? Who else has shown interest in buying?

This is something that needs to be discussed more. Whether it’s Diddy or not, the league is in desperate need of minority ownership to appease critics. I won’t be surprised if they encourage a sale to a minority owner.

The league doesn't pick the buyer.  Jerry Richardson does.

The league gets to approve the sale once Richardson picks his buyer, but I can't recall a single instance when they've disapproved.  And even if they did, they'd have to have a good reason.

They couldn't force Richardson to sell to a minority if he picks someone else.  heck, even the Rooney Rule doesn't say you have to hire, only interview. Nor do I believe they'll encourage him in any particular direction given the situation. Add in that you have to have the cash on hand to even make a bid.

Would say though that given the league has stated they want to secure the Panthers staying in Charlotte, it sounds like this local group will have a very good shot at winning the sale.

Zod's right.

You said it yourself...the league has final say in who joins their private club. Who is to say what the league wants at this point. Who isn’t to say that the local ownership that wants to buy the panthers can match whatever Combs and company offer? There are to many variables right now to say their is zero percent chance of anything.

I can't be the only not remotely surprised by the rampant thinly veiled commentary about the prospects of Diddy having a stake in ownership.

It’s not all thinly veiled racism. Some people don’t like Diddy on merit. He is a great business man, but so is Vince McMahon, and I don’t want him either.

 The new controlling owner:

Is required to individually own at least 30 percent of equity. (Most owners typically own more than that, and some own 100 percent.)

Must to be able to demonstrate financial wherewithal to acquire and effectively operate the team.

Must have full voting control over all matters involving the club and stadium, including all football operations.

Cannot exhaust his or her (total) financial resources to make a bare-minimum equity acquisition.

Is limited to a maximum of $250 million in total debt related to the club. Other debt is permitted beyond that debt ceiling, but it has to be collateralized by non-football assets.

In addition to that:

The payment must be paid in cash or financed.

A new ownership group is limited to a maximum of 25 co-owners.

A public company or not-for-profit can't buy the team.

All owners must be approved by three-quarters (24 of 32) of member clubs.

Diddy wouldn't to even be able to get team anyway.

Propagating what?

The absurd arguments  in the thread you are reading.

In case the argument was about to maybe die it was jump started again and going full bore in multiple threads now.

Not exactly "final say", just the right to approve. That doesn't mean they can guide or force the decision in any way.

And the league actually has spoken.  Specifically, said that they want the team to stay in Charlotte.  That favors local buyers, of whom there are more than one with the means.  And yes, given who the "heavy hitters are expected to be (guys like Hugh McColl, the Belks, the Levines, etc) they can more than match offers made by pretty much any outside interests.

Throw in that the full team is for sale now, not just Jerry Richardson's 48 percent.  For Diddy to buy a controlling interest would take more than 90% of his net worth, meaning he'd have to sell pretty much everything he owns.  The league's own rules for ownership (quoted earlier) state they won't allow anyone who has to do that to be considered.

Sorry, dude.  Diddy is a pipe dream.  It's not gonna happen.  Wouldn't put any bets on Jordan either.

An African-American owner is certainly possible, but it's not gonna be either of those guys.
