What's up with the love affair with DG? He was great at managing the cap but aside from that, he was average at best. missed countless times in the draft, signed some horrible free agents, and single handedly cost us a playoff birth in 2016.

not to mention people hated him, including TD and Olsen, which is saying a lot.

maybe Hurney isn't the answer, but the Panthers can do far better than DG.

It is mystifying, the cult like DG fanboy club. Nothing about his tenure with the Panthers is remarkable other than his mistakes. Good riddance.

The problem with the o line is it took like 5 years to fix it, so it wasnt like he made it a priority as much as Cam was getting beat up. Even with that said its still a work in progress at this point.

I thought the oline was fixed in a pretty solid way. Sure it would be nice to fix it before 5 yrs but we always had solid pieces on the OL to field a winning team. The draft worked out extremely well as we got Turner and Williams for mid rounders which is insane value. Keep in mind during most of our drafts all the quality OL were not very good. We also paid Luke and Cam so top quality free agent OL were not signed due to cap. Also the addition of Norwell thru free agency we probably had one of the cheapest OL in the league. We also had to balance things like WRs and Defense so considering all the balancing we had to do we ended up in a very very good spot. Look at other teams and look how badly they drop the ball in certain areas of the team. Considering the overall team composition we did extremely well compared to most other teams. Tune your expectation of the perfect situation. We had it really good for the most part.

Who here knows who ran the 2001 draft for the Panthers?

Also which GM would you pick?

GM 1

2 Hof players, 2 more likely to be HOF players

DPOY, MVP

GM 2

No HoF players, no MVP, No DPOY players.

Whichever one built teams that won more consistently.

I'm not going to look back at a bunch of mediocre seasons and say "yeah, but at least we had a couple of great draft picks."

It's easier to pick one or two great players when you're constantly picking in the top ten because the rosters you put together are losers.

Hurney's late round picks were great too. He fuging hit on the 31st pick.

This isn't a very intelligent way of comparing two GMs. Considering one has been here for 14 years and actually had players that played for over a decade and the other GM has been here for like 4 years and his players are relatively new. God this is like so bias its almost considered fake news because you purely look at a stat line that makes one person shine and the other not. It is so misleading and uneducated its so sad to read. If you really wanted to compare them in a better way you look at W/L and even more details like cap management and other GM duties.

DG's actions with Josh Norman are enough to be on my hate list for life.

Was on my hate list well before that for how he handled Smitty.

How he handled cutting him was beyond unacceptable for a player of his stature in our franchise history, he's been dead toe ever since that moment.

Sentimentality is for losers who run losing and mediocre teams.

Meanwhile the cold hearted Belichick's of the world keep on winning.

Cutting him because it had to be done is fine, but for a player of his stature within this franchise's history, you call him into the office and explain it to him, or at the very least tell him over the phone.

Joe Montana, Emmitt Smith and plenty of other players got less than ceremonious releases from their original teams.

It's a business. It happens.
