The best GM by far in Panthers history, fired by our creep owner, is potentially about to take a job with one of the most well run franchises in NFL history, and a top 2 pick to start things off.

Why oh why couldn't mister shake-your-rump have gotten exposed an offseason ago sigh

What's up with the love affair with DG? He was great at managing the cap but aside from that, he was average at best. missed countless times in the draft, signed some horrible free agents, and single handedly cost us a playoff birth in 2016.

not to mention people hated him, including TD and Olsen, which is saying a lot.

maybe Hurney isn't the answer, but the Panthers can do far better than DG.

Fixed the shitshow that Hurney created

Signed vets/contributors at low prices

Cut said vets when they weren't producing and didn't over pay* (*Matt Kalil excluded. Can't defend that one, hated it from the get go. But still, vast vast majority of his signings didn't hurt us financially)

Put together a super Bowl team while cash strapped

Re-signed Luke and Cam

Drafted in the mid to late 20's as opposed to the 10's so it's kind of expected the best talent wouldn't always be available, but he still got decent guys. Not all first round picks are equal.

4 out of 5 years in which he put a team together they went to the playoffs* (*pending a victory this sunday)

Had the most successful 5 year span this team has ever had.

Not a cuck like Hurney

brought us the term "Hogmollies"

Gettleman might not have been the best GM ever, but he's certainly the best we've ever had.

DG's actions with Josh Norman are enough to be on my hate list for life.

Honestly couldn't give less of a poo about it.

Norman wouldn't have fixed last season. It was injuries that did us in.

Plus if we had Norman we wouldn't have Peppers again, Short locked up long term, Addison, and the option to re-sign either Norwell or Star this offseason, possibly both.

But the redskins have Norman and his 20 million/year contract and will have missed the playoffs in consecutive years while having to decide on whether or not to keep paying him or a franchise friggin QB.

Keeping Norman in a Rivera defensive scheme is short sighted and a poor allocation of funds. He was a luxury, and it would have been nice to have had him, but he would probably be gone this year anyway and we wouldn't have been in as good of a position financially for the long term.

So that's one hate list and one not hate list.

Whether we kept him long term or not, it was handled poorly. He's not my kind of guy.

If you are going to give him credit for all his successes, then you have to also give him credit for his failures - and he did have some big ones.  Rescinding franchise tag on Norman was a colossal mistake that completely changed the trajectory (and not in a good way) of our 2016 season.  He is a cost-first type of guy with a take it or leave it approach.  I think if he had worked with Norman a little bit he would have stayed (and for less than what Washington gave him).  After that mishap, he then proceeded to give turnstile M. Kalil $55 mil which still doesn't make sense (and even more so given his focus on the bottom line).

Overall I think his positives outweighed his negatives and will agree he was a very solid GM.  Just dont be surprised when he sends Eli packing and alienates himself to entire Giants fanbase in his first year...
