Is Hurney good as gone?

Hurney's interim contract runs through June of next year. It'll probably take about that long to get the new ownership fully in place.

Assuming the NFL doesn't find something, Hurney will be on the job long enough to build next year's camp roster. After that, they'll probably pick their own guy to start work the following year.

FYI: Ron Rivera's contract expires after next season. Barring an extension, right about the time that the new ownership and new GM will be fully ready to go, Rivera will be out of contract..

Whether they decide to keep him or not probably depends a lot on how we finish this year and how the team looks next year.

Understood but GM and coaches are fired well before their contracts are up all the time.

Couldn't a new owner come in and fired them immediately?

An owner could fire him as soon as they finish buying the team if they wanted to..

If that were the case, then we'd be looking at two straight years of having our GM fired right about time for training camp.

That'll be a pretty weird footnote on NFL history.

I am not sure how long the bidding process can be but I would imagine it will be up to JR.   Since this won't happen until after our Super Bowl run (thinking optimistically) It would be February before a bid could be sought.

Any owner would be out of his mind to fire the GM 3 months before the draft.

This is likely true.

The only alternative I can come up with is to bring in someone as GM who is already actively employed by another NFL team and involved in the college scouting process.  Another Brandon Beane.  Presumably they would already be up to speed with the talent available.

He's under contract through the offseason and will have a prove it year so to speak. Also provides new ownership an easy scapegoat if he sucks. Would be much easier to give him/Rivera one more year and if they fail in 18, clean house and start from scratch.

First ever back to back winning seasons guaranteed. We all know Rivera plays better when his job is on the line.

Well, if he doesn't get the Giants job, you could always ask Dave Gettleman to work as the interim GM.

That's not going to happen, but it'd be funny as hell if it did.

If Hurney finds himself dragged down by JR's office shenanigans, there won't be many good solutions other than what will henceforth be known as "The Gettleman Option".  I'm copywriting the title and movie rights in the unlikely event this should ever go down.

Are you referring to the players Marty couldn't win with?

Cam only had 1 and a half year of experience, luke was a rookie, and rivera was still "learning" to be a head coach when he left. So Please lets not go that route....if anything he just didnt see the results of the rebuild.

The same could be said for Gettleman's draft picks as well.

Two-thirds of the players on the Panthers squad aren't Hurney's players.

Dave came in and immediately made a marked improvement in the team's performance by adding depth and a veteran presence.  And he did it despite Hurney's bungling of the payroll.

From what I've heard on the radio, new ownership usually take over in October.  Hurney is under contract until some time in the summer.  I have a feeling they will extend his contract to gap the transition.  So new ownership can pick their guy when they get in.
