Panthers own stadium with debt from city for renovations is how I understand situation.

From an Observer article....

"If the team leaves after June 2019, the contract says the city would have the option of buying the stadium for $1 or the Panthers would pay the city the remaining debt payment on the city’s $75 million investment.

The city didn’t have exact numbers of how much debt is remaining. The Panthers still plan on spending $7 million of the $75 million in the off season on improvements.

Kimble said the city has been paying off the debt at about $7.5 million a year. That means there would be about $35 million to $40 million left on the debt."

I remember reading an article years ago that Jerry Richardson had aquired a huge ammount of land in the Charlotte area for a future stadium complex.  I guess that isn't happening now

Personally, I love the Bank. I think it's a classic feel with some nice amenities. The location is fn perfect and the outside around the stadium really looks nice and classy. I love the stadium. But if a new one kept the team here and was planned properly, I wouldn't oppose I guess.

 

It isn'tFenway or anything, so let's be honest, most of us probably think a new stadium one day is more inevitable than not. But damn I would seriously miss it, and prefer to keep it around as long as possible.

The stadium upgrades probably bought 10 years, but the city needs to have an eye toward a future mega stadium.

what happens in 2 years with the lease up? Say the panthers don't sign a new lease will it just become a empty stadium used for 2 crappy college games a year?

 

It wouldn't surprise me that Charlotte would rebuild one and pay a ridiculous amount and still have the same problems as BOA just with more modern things for those businessmen sitting in the lower section for 200 a ticket.

 

I feel like we have upgraded BOA the past couple offseasons for a pretty penny. I could see it working for another decade. 

First thing should be a practice facility upgrade. Get them a indoor place and only practice in it for walk throughs, road dome games, bad weather. I have a feeling Panthers would pull an Atlanta braves and put the stadium outside the city. But hey if we flip the tables they should make the nose bleeds as nice as the lower level, Widen space between chairs and rows. Even those guys at the top are spending a big buck for tickets, gas, paying to park, food, drink, poo maybe a 15 dollar towel.

They would be worthless. But I would expect the team to give current PSL owners first dibs on seats in a new stadium. If they move we are sol.

By "lease," are they referring to the six year tether in exchange for the city chipping in for stadium renovations? 

How do you lease something you own? Author is dumb.

As for PSL owners, the licenses are valid for the lifetime of the stadium. Once the team no longer uses that stadium, those PSLs are no longer valid. I'm sure you read what you sign.... right?
