Power Rankings Heading into Week 16 (What are Your Power Rankings?)

Its rather curious but I seem to recall us being ranked higher on average last week? I think we went down a spot or two in a number of places because of the Jaguars leapfrogging us in the minds of the common NFL fan. 

Do you agree that we should be ranked around #8 or #7 ?

My personal Power Rankings would be 

1. Patriots (We beat them earlier but they've been on a tear ever since with the exception of Miami game)
2. Steelers (Very good, shouldve beat Pats, defense however is much more supsect w/o shazier)
3. Vikings (Best all around team in NFC, however obviously we are around their level when forcing multi turnovers)
4. Saints (Beat us twice, they have looked mortal in many games tho and didnt put the Jets away until late 4th quarter)
5. Panthers (6-1 last 7 games, forcing alot of turnovers, Olsen, Kalil back, Byrd getting multi TDs, most seasoned playoff team in the NFC)
6. Eagles (They're still good but they just barely beat the Giants, clearly not as good w/o wentz)
7. Rams (Most explosive offense and great coaching staff, talented D, but Vikings showed they can be beaten. Very young + inexperienced team)
8. Jags (Have beaten mostly scrub teams, no playoff experience, but admittedly their defense is insane and Bortles is doing well late season)
9. Falcons (Quite inconsistent this season but they keep winning in the last 1/4 of the season, if they sweep the Saints they're likely serious contenders)
10. Chiefs (Running the offense through Hunt seems to be working)
11. Cowboys (With Zeke back and Sean Lee starting, theyre pretty good)
12. Ravens
13. Seahawks
14. Chargers 
15. Bills 
16. Titans

Pretty much what I seemed to learn through the past couple of weeks is that all of these teams ranked ahead of us don't look extremely impressive

Patriots lost to a dolphins team we blew out, Steelers defense is very porous without Shazier, the Eagles couldve lost to the Giants with Foles throwing 4 TDs, and the Saints couldn't put away a McCown-less Jets team until the waining minutes of the 4th quarter.

I'd say the hot teams right now look like Panthers, Rams, Vikings, and Jaguars. And we have alot more playoff experience in the last 5 years than all of these teams combined in that period.

Media has been pretty quiet about us (minus JR and TD) in terms how good we have played. I barely hear any talk about it. It’s better this way.

I think the Rams are  criminally underrated personally. They just demolished the Seahawks this weekend. Up 34-0 at the half I think. I voted 4th with my heart, but we probably deserve to be around 6th atm.

I think a ranking as low as 8 is legit based on our overall season.  However I think it's plausible to say 3 do to Kalil and Olsen being back in the line up and the emergence of our secondary finally starting to make some place allowing our front 7 to harass the quarterback.  As usual, our team is positionally across the board performing strongly leading into the playoffs.  We are definitely contenders.

The Panthers had a lot of high profile contests this year. They have a great resume with only the Bears as a blemish.

The problem is that there are 8 teams that could legitimately make a claim for the number one spot. I think a lot of this is matchup based. The Saints and Rams matchup so well against us that they would probably win 7 out of 10 games against the Panthers. The Eagles, Vikings, Patriots, and Steelers are all tough teams but we beat two and nearly beat a third in that group. We’d probably go 5 of 10 with anyone in that group. Then there’s Jacksonville. That defense is nasty, but would their offense be able to do anything against our D? I think we’d win 7 out of 10 against the Jags. 

Then again that doesn’t mean the Saints and Rams are 1 and 2 in the league. Let the Saints come to Charlotte again in January with Olsen back and Cam on fire and let’s see what the outcome is. Let the Rams face us even on their field and we’ll show them what the 2013 Panthers learned. Playoff experience is key for playoff victories.

my vote is 5th. Leaves room for teams above us, but also puts some damn good teams below us.

Unbiased opinion from the OP, I agree with the rankings and your opinion, dilly, dilly. I do find it a bit frustrating that out of the top three teams I have seen in power rankings I have looked at, (which admittedly have not been many)  the Patriots...Vikings....Philly.. are all on top and we have beaten two out of the three but we from a national media perspective are being labeled as an also ran, not really a serious contender.  Meh, doesn't really matter though, only thing that matters this week is the scheme to beat the bucs, let the rest take care of itself.

Three big losses and mostly closer victories prevent us from being in the upper echelon of teams, who are mostly blowing opponents out.
