BYRD

Shepard and Clay have shown they aren't even remotely reliable in terms of catching the ball. So there's a lot falling on the shoulders of Byrd to at least be somewhat respected as a deep threat.

Would be really nice if he caught a bomb or two down the field before the regular season ends.

FWIW, Eugene Robinson  (radio crew) was saying Byrd has been clocked at 4.28 (40). Amazing. Additionally his vertical leaping ability is incredible.

Byrd ran 10.4 100 meters in college which is Ginn like. Add Samuel who has 4.3 speed and Cmc who ran 10.8 100 in grade 11 and you have a nightmare for defenses next year And they all can catch

Byrd has done the most with this chance and I'm happy for him. He still has a ways to go though. Hopefully he can get stronger and get off of press better.

That said if the saints were to cut Ginn right now I'd sign him and have him take Byrd's spot in a heart beat.

He ran a 4.25 at the Gamecocks pro day. His 42" leap is only 4" off the NFL record.

Always knew Byrd had it in him. Thats why every game I said he be open. Cam just needed to trust him. Now he does enough for Byrd to get targets.

The 2nd TD, man has got quickness.

I can imagine him in the slot with a go route up the seam/skinny post for a long bomb.

This place is unbelievable. During the off season I said 100% we wouldn't bring Ginn back because Byrd will fill that roll and everybody on this site talked poo and acted like I didn't know what i was looking at... Now you guys want him starting opposite Funchess lol Byrd has all the talent in the world but lacks ideal size, but there's something special about him. I don't think he's an every down WR, but he belongs in the offense as much as possible. Dude can fly, has great concentration, and can take any short route the distance.  Defenses HAVE to respect him amd his ability, then add in the fact that Cam is finally getting game reps with him... Just dangerous

Guess what? Almost everyone's reservation about Byrd was that we hadn't seen him in live action and didn't trust his preseason outings as indicative of how he would play during the regular season. Now that he has shown he can be a viable option as a speed guy, with solid hands and someone who Cam will look for, we would like to see him in a starting role.

You can puff your chest and say you wanted Byrd to start all along. However most people with reservations had them for good reason.

I can imagine him on the outside with a screen pass. I can imagine him in the backfield working in from the slot to fake the sweep to while CMC runs a wheel up the right and Byrd takes a wheel up the left, Olsen on a seam route, with Funchess on a flag; all from the 41 yard line with a 2nd and 2 the first set of downs after a monster turnover from the defense with the game on the line.

I can only imagine, what my eyes would see.

You just must go off draft status, cuz this sides been a stud for as long as he's been with us, just hasn't gotten the opportunity, anybody who knows anything about real football and not just watching on sundays and playing Madden and keyboard warrior knows this, so... Maybe pay more attention to lesser known players and look for potential instead of just going along with the crowd

I think a poor man’s Smitty is a pretty nice ceiling that i would love for this dude to achieve.

I wish Steve was around to teach him. I see a few similarities. Steve is a little more athletic and can move his body in crazy ways to avoid tackles. Route running from Steve could have helped Byrd a lot I think
