Did we make that up, or did the family say it?  I can't remember.

That detail came out when there was talk about the team moving.

I'm leaning that way too.

JR gets rid of the GM and team President...new majority owner can pick his guys, and the new GM can decide what to do with the coaching staff.

What makes me think otherwise is the fact that he brought Hurney back, and none of us believed it was just for an "interim".

I've long thought that Richardson wanted Hurney back, not for logical or sound business reasons but because he was his friend. Thus, he found an excuse to fire Gettleman and put things back to what made him comfortable.

Basically, I see Richardson deteriorating and turning into Al Davis.  This story coming up probably saved us from being a latter day Raiders.

Now, I could see family and advisers wanting the team sold if they could see what was happening.  But Richardson himself? Can't buy that.

I was with you on this fully...until recently.  The firing of DG didn't make sound sense....maybe that riled up the minority share holders.

Morrison walking didn't make sense...maybe riled up the minority holders.

What's the best way to get him out of the way before he can do more damage?  Leak some not so flattering details about day to day operations, and make them pretty scathing for a "Southern Gentleman".

I'm just spit balling here, but there is too much weird lately, for none of it to be together.

Also, Marty is probably more concerned about this move than anyone in North Carolina.

Except maybe Bersin, who has been on the team for what seems like forever but doesn’t play. I’m thinking it’s either the JR-Wofford connection or he has compromising pix or audio of JR.

Either way he gone next year.

Morrison probably would have worked more closely and directly with Richardson than anyone else. That would have put him in the best position to know what was going on. I believe that's why he bailed. He very well could have seen where this was headed.

Hurney, I'm less sure of. There's probably no one more loyal to Jerry Richardson than Marty Hurney. And yes, it's conceivable that might also include being more willing to keep secrets than others might have been. Could that have played a role in him coming back? Who can say.

Either way, I'd agree Hurney has the most to lose here. It's hard to believe that any owner other than Jerry Richardson would want to keep him as GM.

Cuban couldn't have bought the Panthers anyway without screwing up his NBA ownership situation.

Ever think JR is selling the organization now, not because of the scandal, but because there is going to be a limited window on the major tax breaks he will be entitled to thanks to the current GOP scheme. It can literally mean $100 million in the sale gets to stay in his family's pockets rather than evaporate into taxes. JR might live a few more years but the tax scheme is probably gone after the mid-term elections and there might even be punitive higher taxes or a move to treat capital gains as regular taxable income.

The scandal actually makes it just a quicker sale and a quicker approval of the sale by the rest of the NFL owners (since they have final say). It might shave a few million off the original price tag, but the tax savings are going to be huge. JR has teams of tax attorneys and CPAs working on this and I think they're playing to the market.

OMG, someone gets to keep more of their own money. THE HUMANITY.

Kindly note that I will receive a major break from taxes as well and will likely be able to leverage my Masters degree during my job search in December for either a raise with my current employer or a new job with another. The tax break will force employers to raise wages and increase hiring because if some employers don't and others do, they will lose out on more talented individuals.

I'm not entirely sure what the point of being punitive with taxes against citizens of your own country would be either. The freeing of capital in 2018 and the reversion back to  the current system in 2019 would kill the U.S. economy and likely cause a market crash worldwide.

I'm just curious if the minority owners already knew that JR was considering selling, and his actions/behavior allowed them to push him out?

Morrison, I agree with, he was good at his job, and was probably privy to JR more than most...he may have wanted nothing to do with that stuff, and let the other owners know that's why he was leaving?

Again, just spitballing, but I can't imagine JR deciding to sell almost immediately after the article came out....just seems like this was on his mind before this week.

But who the hell knows what goes on in the mind of an 80 year old billionaire?

General belief is that he agreed to step aside and sell the team to avoid further investigation and embarrassment.

Then he announced the sale and the NFL said "sorry, we're still investigating."

Ouch.

Wow, I must have triggered something in you there. My bad.

I was simply pointing out that there could be some major tax advantages to JR for selling the team at this time, and that postponing the sale a year or two could work just the opposite. I was neither expressing a political opinion, just a financial one.

But, by all means, have your hissy.
