Remember this hit on Cam Newton last year

The refs have been protecting Cam more this season and it is obvious. TD's hit was really bad which resulted in a concussion. Last year's no calls on Cam were infuriating but it is what it is now. Refs are taking shots to the head more seriously now partially because Cam spoke up. There's no reason to cry over it. We will be fine and TD will come back rested and pissed off for the playoffs. I'm not even mad about it

I think it's the defenseless receiver part in addition to the hit location that makes it a suspension.

If it would have been the other way around it would just have been a fine. I really hope Davis appeals it.

It 100% is because he got hurt. Had he popprd right back up it would have been a fine at worst.

The NFL has a bad habit of punishing the outcome not the initial action.

Well unless your Cam Newton weathering in pain. Then it's just a $500 fine.

As a TD 58 fan, it was a dirty hit.  My wife is not a die hard panthers fan yet, but I found myself explaining why it was unnecessary.  I told her he should get a game for it.  He is remorseful  and  deserves a suspension for a hit he clearly understands the consequences of.   2 games is excessive.   I love Thomas and what he has done for this team and his continued efforts to help the community.
