I don’t think that happened. Minority shareholder Erskin Bowles was tapped to lead the investigation but it hasn’t been revealed the investigation was initiated by an owner.

I'm just glad I wasn't the one tasked with having to go tell JR that "hey Mister, um, we just caught wind that SI will be running with a story about your aah, umm, well....

Well I don't think JR launched an investigation on himself. So, it had to be initiated by the minority owners group.

It’s a good question but it sounds like SI was snooping around all week so my guess is that JR did exactly that in hopes that it gets swept under the rug with the whole “internal investigation” nonsense.

If the minority owners knew about this and decided to run an investigation they should and would have gone to the NFL first. The only reason JR would have thought Erskine Bowles would have been impartial is because his interest in the team with the other minority owners carries no control or involvement in operations (where the improprieties happened.). I think they are going to act ignorant of this situation and stay as far away as possible.

The internal investigation idea was reportedly brought forth by Richard Thigpen (team counsel) and Steven Drummond (team spokesman).

Drummond never would identify who picked Bowles to run the investigation.  My guess would be that fell under he and Thigpen also.

Interesting. Those guys report to JR. Though they are technically employees of the minority owners also, I think JR keeps a pretty strict authority flow chart and other owners are not on it.

I think the entire team will be up for sale.  The asking price will reach 3 billion-4 billion.

As far as we know now only Jerry’s shares as a controlling largest shareholder at 47% are for sale. So even if a buyer overvalued the team at 3bil anything over 1.5bil is unrealistic. I could actually see the controlling interest in the panthers going for 1b or slightly under.

It's going to be a bidding war.  That will drive the price up.  If things get interesting, I can see the others also selling their shares.  Besides, if I bought the team with Richardson, why continue under someone new?  You don't know if they will expand the franchise in terms of worth, or cause it to nose dive.  It might be wise to pull out.

Yea. A lot of wait and see happening. I don’t think JR will want the “wrong owner” because I know the city and the NFL won’t be happy with that but if I owned a portion of the team I would certainly wait for the heir apparent and consider dangling my interest out there as well if that person doesn’t fit my plans.

I still personally speculate that the Wordsworths pick up 2/3 of Jerry’s shares and become the largest single interest and the shares all stay within current ownership.
